Tide w/ Actilift

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Haven't tried it BUT I did notice on the tv commercial... in the teenie tiniest print along the bottom for about 15 seconds that it said something like
Clothes were washed in Tide Acti-Lift 3 times prior to staining.

So it could be that you have to use the stuff a few times first before the "acti-lift" works.

acti-lift - stain prevention not removal

I don't think the purpose of acti-lift is cleaning. I think you wash your clothes in it and the acti-lift solution stays in them to make it easier to remove future stains. I don't think I am interested in this.

It Is What It Is

Acti-lift is in theory to be active lifting of dried on stains/soils from fabric. IIRC, the chemicals responsible for this are polymers added to liquid/gel laundry detergents.

While haven't tired this particular version of Tide, am that well pleased with P&G's latest incarnation of "Tide Free/Gentle" HE formula. Very low sudsing, rinses cleanly and excellent stain removal. Have soaked several loads of badly stained table linens now, and even wine spots have come out, even when using cool water.

Launderess,

Thanks for the feedback on the Free HE formula - I was considering that one as well if Actilift turned out to be a bit more marketing than useful feature, which it sounds like it may be. I was also concerned about the "washed with Actilift prior" bit -- almost sounds like a stay-in fabric coating which can't be too good for the skin in the long run.

Follow-up questions on Free HE - how do you feel it does on darks, considering it still has OBAs? Any fading / dulling issues? And, alternately, does it do a good enough job on whites for you to not reach for the bleach (LCB or oxygen-based)? I'm coming from the perspective of using Persil Megaperls right now, "Universal" (with OBAs and oxygen bleach) for whites/very lights and Color (no OBAs or bleach) for colors. Those work well for me, each in their own role, but are irritatingly expensive...

Tide Free also has the advantage of not being scented which is a plus, since I've heard that more recent versions of Original Scent Tide can be a bit much.

I also noticed they have "Coldwater Free" now, and although I just today washed something on cold, that would probably be my first time in months. Wonder how it compares to the regular Free version?

Persil Black Magic should be good, but that does put us squarely back into expensive European solutions again! How bad is Tide these days at fading darks? I haven't used it since the late 1980s and a lot has changed since then, obviously. Are there any high-enzyme (strong stain removal) options available domestically? Having small kids, I can't use something that won't get out oil-on-cotton, ketchup, etc.

Tide Total Care

I recently (within the last 2 months) started using Tide Total Care for my colors and darks and have to say that I am rather impressed with it. My darks have not faded and colors seem, well, colorful. I have noticed that with sweaters that have had issues with pilling, that after a few washes the pilling has been greatly reduced if not eliminated all together. But like any P&G product, it's pricey. $20 for a large 60 load bottle. But it may be a somewhat cheaper alternative to the European detergents.

Chris

P.S. I also like the fact that the Total Care is not 2X. I have a bad skin reactions to their 2X formulas. But this regular concentration does not bother me.

NeptuneGuy, how do you find the scent of Total Care? I've heard it described ranging from "fresh and clean" to "badly scented kitty litter", which is sort of a wide range of opinions. More importantly, does the smell linger after coming out of the dryer? I can live with a stronger scented detergent (like Persil) as long as the clothes come out pretty neutral once dry.

I have been using Total Care on colors and Perm press and like it. The Renewing Rain fragrence is mild and plesant. I have not tried the other scents. I bought 20 load size at Wally-land for $5. Then went back and bought a 40 load size for $7.99. This is the only liquid I use, well besides Woolite. [this post was last edited: 12/28/2010-15:07]

Mysteryclock

The fragrance of the Renewing Rain HE which I use smells very good to me. It reminds of shampoo actually. The scent does hang on to the clothes but I do not find it to be over the top. They just smell fresh and clean. In all honesty the first few times I smelled it, it actually reminded me of how the original version of liquid Tide smelled in the 80's and 90's. It would not say it is exactly the same but very reminiscent. I hope this helps.

Have not tried Tide total care but have recently used tide 2x liquid on colors and navy blue and eggplant towels. When removed the towels shimmer under the florescent lights in my laundry. They still look dark, but I don't care for shimmering darks and colors. Not sure what they might look like in the future so I stopped using it.
