Tim Horton's comes to New York

We have Tim Hortons in Maine. They dont multiply like Dunkin Donuts but they hold their own. Krispy Kreme came here at a time when that damn Atkins diet was popular. That kinda did them in. We had one in Saugus Mass and its now a bank...but I do miss it!

A Timmy's in Times Square, eh?

Well, how about that! Canadian business always seemed to flow south to north to me (we're used to having US chains expand into Canada, not the other way around!). The market in NYC should be able to support it, but I can't really think of any big differentiating factor that will make your average Manhattanite give up the coffee from the pushcart on the corner.
Personally, I only ever go to a Tim Horton's when I am away on business because they are everywhere up here!

Not particularly one of my favorite places. There's one a few blocks from our house. Their coffee is bland and watery, nothing at all to crow about. I like dark roast coffees and they don't carry one. They're more or less out of the "donut" end of the business as well, perhaps 10 choices max now instead of 30 or more. When I was still working in a tower downtown there was a Timmies inside just off the main entrance councourse and people would line up 40-50 deep in single file, yet just up the escalator were two other coffee places which had a huge selection of better coffee and muffins and while they did a good business it was never like Tims.

Restaurant chain Riese is beind this, after a falling out with Dunkin Donuts.

Riese chain apparently owned many Dunkin Donout stores in NYC, and a few months ago a picture appeared in the New York Post of a mouse happily munching away on a tray of donuts. This coming after the now world famous video of rats have a gym period at a local fast food restaurant, was fighting words to the DD people.

DD sued Reise claiming they were harming the brand, and that the DD in question with the mouse eating his snack is part of a complex of restaurants all owed by Riese and all having NYC Department of Health violations, including for rodent activity.

Not willing to take things lying down, Riese counter sued and the whole thing went back and forth in the courts. The final up shot was the above, Riese ending their "relationship" with some if not all DD stores in NYC. Enter Tim Hortons.

Krispy Creme did not fare well in NYC, and with the new NYC regulations against trans fats, calorie posting and the like, cannot see how anyone can made decent donoughts in NYC anyway.

Having just recovered from a mouse invasion, and listening to the tales from the exterminator has put me off eating out in NYC, much less buying pastry. Once the weather cools will be back to baking my own.

I like Tim Hortons

I spent a week in Houlton, Maine and had breakfast every morning at Tim Hortons, and once for lunch. I found it a very nice change from Dunkin Donuts. The place was clean and food was good. Wish they were in S. Florida, too.
