My dad's cousin Mary lived in a house built in the early 1920's (maybe a Sears). In the kitchen there was a narrow door on one wall, and it was a built-in ironing board. It had an electric receptacle inside for the iron to plug in, and a holder for the iron. There was a wall switch with a red pilot light next to the door.

Over the last 25 years my husband and I have restored 4 vintage houses including a Victorian, and built a home from 1960 plans with NOS 60’s fixtures, wallpapers, and appliances gleaned from online sources. So it really warmed my heart that the new owners were saving that little apartment from the current “Greige craze”. If anyone noticed the green linoleum (not vinyl as quoted) in the main spaces and the amazing linoleum in the closets, it is the correct design for the era of the house when it was built, so it is more than likely original to the home. The plastic tiles were a cheap way to dress up a bathroom or kitchen during the 1950’s through the 60’s and could still be found in some mail order catalogs into the early 80’s. What I wouldn’t give to see that place when it is finished.
