Well, i skipped out on doing my work so i could pick up my new 53? Frigidaire set. Aren't they a beaut? I just got them unloaded and will clean them up shortly but i was to excited, so i took some pictures so i could share with the group. The washer is the one with the overflow rinse...

ok...i need an intervention

I know have a wopping 42 washers/dryers...someone need to intervene on my craziness before my basement (washer/dryer storage area) starts to overflow into the rest of the house. I'll never get another bf, they will take one look at my collection and run for the hills, haha.

Robert...i think you need to install a personals sections on this site for us appliance nuts...lol

I'll second the personals idea. It's a bit difficult to "introduce" your collection(s) to a date and not have him run for the hills. I finally bought an old storefront building so I can live upstairs and my toys can be downstairs. That way I can deny ownership of the first floor until the right time, lol

That is a great idea Travis. I also try to stear my dates away from my collection(s) for the first few dates, or until they realize im not an axe murderer who stores my victims in my antique refrigerators and washers/dryers, lol.

I'm glad that makes sense to someone else. Not only that, but if you have a storefront, you have easy access to move stuff in and out. I checked for a nice strong first floor before I bought.

I refuse to try and live as a collector in a normal house. The steps kill you, the kitchen is never big enough for three fridges, and the laundry room only has room for one set. Who designs these places anyway?
 
Storefront for sale....

So does anyone want to buy the building that I have for sale?? It has the store in which we had our family business (TV & appliance store) and 3-level living quarters attached.

Nice set there Graham - you'll love the overflow rinse. Is it me or is the motor protector missing on the control panel? This will be one of your favorites - the WO-65 in my basement always has the most fun!

Well,

I i go to any auction that has a mixed match washer dryer offered. Usually one is old when this is done. I go or call any and all used appliance shop in the state and i comb this site, ebay and local classifieds. It is a job in itself, finding these machines. It is also cool to network with the wonderful people here on automatic washer.com. Oh and you can not be shy to drive 5-6 hours one way to get a machine. I've only got 4 of my 42 machines within an hour from my house so you have to commit to a drive.

I lived in a storefront building for nearly 13 years. Turned the main floor into a warehouse apt. Really enjoyed living there except for the fact that the only window in the place was the storefront window, so I always had to have the blinds drawn. It's a bit weird to have people stopping to gawk into your home while strolling down the sidewalk.

It sure was convenient, though, having a hardware store on one side, a barbershop on the other and a bar and an appliance store directly across the street.
 
Oh Graham the set is just beautiful, congratulations! I see it looks like you found the rubber agitator cap as well. Remember to attach a drain hose and pour a few cups of very hot water down the hose to prime the pump seal before you start the washer for testing. That is a wonderful dryer as well, although I don’t use my Filtrator dryers from June-Sep, they are just wonderful the rest of the year when its cooler.

As for some advice on finding a boyfriend, don’t hide the fact that you collect vintage appliances, act natural and celebrate it right from the start. If you new bf reacts like it is strange that you would collect old appliances, you should act surprised

that he has never heard of anyone who collects this stuff “well considering all the people I know who collect vintage appliances, it’s all the rage you know”. That usually gets them. Then make sure your collection is sparkling shiny and show it off to him and show him pictures of some of our collections on the site as well to drive the point home. You'll be doing his wash in no time LOL. He sure will appreciate never having to do it himself, not to mention never having to spend one dime appliances (that's Neal's favorite part).

OK, you've gotten sensible dating advice from Robert. Now, a few words from Evil Eugene's Dating Service:

If you REALLY want to make an impression on your date...

1) After a few drinks and casually normal conversation in your apartment, tell him you want to show him something downstairs.

2) Begin turning off all the lights in your apt., as if you're not returning. Then pick up a flashlight and slowly lead your guy downstairs, using only the flashlight for illumination. Start to say vaguely unsettling things to him.

3) Enter the Washertorium, moving the flashlight around quickly from one machine to the next, mumbling cryptic things. Laugh or cry inappropriately.

4) Stop, take a slow, deep, noisy breath and begin to moan softly, rocking back and forth. Then position the flashlight under your chin (lighting from below always adds to that "psycho look"), look him straight in the eyes and say "All my friends wind up down here."

This advice won't necessarily lead to a 2nd date, but both of you will have a very interesting story to tell!

OMG to funny Eugene. I nearly cried from laughing cause i am totally gonna do that but with a seasoned friend.

Thanks Robert for the good advice. I like the reverse psychology approach, i think it will work. YAY, thanks for all the advice. I am gonna try it out.

I no longer remember if I showed Michael Hooverland on our first or 2nd date.
I do remember how I introduced hime to it though... I made him close his eyes, I walked him downstairs into a dark basement, then I switched on the lights. He was pretty surprised, but aldo intrigued too.

Who knows, the date might just get into watching you roll up your sleeves and get dirty fixing a machine...

Beautiful machines. I have a '54 unimatic. Does your machine's pulsator have a portion that is metal or is it all black?? Mine is all black as is Rogers in Tucson. Before 1954 I think they still used part of the pulsator as metal.
I'm looking for a dryer to match my washer so if anyone knows where one might be please let me know.

Jeff has a very good point there Graham, it is something I always stress when telling people about my collection. I remember how impressed Neal was the first time he saw my washers. He like so many people said the exact same thing to me that they expected to find just a bunch of dirty old washers piled on top of each other in my basement. Then when they see everything lined up neatly, clean and washing away their impression is completely changed to being totally impressed. Of course even at that point there are a rare few people that still roll their eyes, but generally I find that these people don't have one ounce of creativity in them and they are not worth our time.

Nobody ever realizes what goes into restoring these babies, be it a washer or vacuum!

One previous BF I had enjoyed working on the vacuums with me, and Michael loves it! He has no clue how to take anything apart, so I disassemble and he cleans and details. It works well..
I asked Michael when I talked to him about an hour ago what he remembered about seeing my collection for the first time, he had a rather interesting response, it was not the vacuums he noticed so much as my excitement and passion for the hobby. He was more excited abut the vacuums after he had some time to look around and check things out.
