Since my house is full as is my storage unit, I decided to only bring one nice piece home today. I admired this dryer when it was on eBay as it brought back a childhood memory for me.

My grandparents operated a tourist home but had one family rent a room year 'round. The husband was a coal miner and the wife a homemaker. Monday was her wash day. She had a Kenmore wringer washer but had it paired up with this dryer.

And when I spotted the partially full bottle of freshener and smelled the aroma, I was taken back to 1959. All in all, the memories it brought back were priceless! What a find!

Hi Rich, thats a great find. I may have a lead on the matching washer.........BTW I also have a full carton of the dispoable lint filter bags in my parts storage. I found them a while back in an old house I was doing an estate sale at and saved them hoping a dryer would surface, and now here it is. Yeah!

1959 Beauty!

Oh Rich that is just a wonderful find. I love the 50-amp Kenmore dryers from the late 50's. These are great, fast-low temperature dryers. I use mine constantly and I love it.

Beautiful dryer and a technological marvel in its day. I had a LK '59 pair for about a year, but never hooked up the dryer. Mine was electric and I had only gas hookup in my warehouse apt. Hope you find the dryer's mate, too!

(In my best 8 year old boy-who-has-an appliance fetish voice. Yes, It's the REAL me here.)

I want,
I want,
I want, ta, go, ta lowes and, order a new dryer in "Harmony House Sunshine Yellow"! or "Candy Pink" ,if they are out of the - - - Harmony House Sunshine Yellow ---ones. And get it in gas!
Not Natural gas.
Not bottled(presumably LP gas).
no, MIXED gas !!. ??
hmmm.
What, is there other uses for helium I wasn't aware of? Perhaps there was an early method of reusing methane gas from the local landfill. (stinky)
Do I dare ask what ever became of "mixed" gas?

Love the lint bags.. That would great for us here, cause my husband doesn't udnerstand the concept of a lint filter

Congratulations Rich. I am still hoping for a nice Hamilton. That is the only Kenmore dryer ever with a porcelain drum so that makes it a treasure for another reason. The drum also makes it a lot heavier than similar KM dryers. If you do not have the 50 Amp circuit, moving a wire on the heater box will take that extra heater out of the circuit, but it really affects the speed. Remember that Consumers Report article on dryers that rated an earlier Kenmore unacceptable unless it was on the 50 Amp circuit because the timer only went up to 60 minutes and that was not enough for a cotton load? I wondered what they were using for water extraction. I guess the WP dryers had timers that went beyond 60 minutes because they did not offer the heater step up, or at least it was not mentioned.

Did the miner's wife have the gas or electric dryer? Were they living in a part of the house or in a cabin-type accommodation? Did they have children? When I think about the brutal poverty, danger and ignorance of so many miners' lives, I find a whole lot more to be grateful for.

Rich that is one beautiful dryer. Will this be one that you use often. I was amazed when I saw and used Robert's 50 amp Lady. Thatis one fantastic dryer. Congratulations and enjoy it!!
