Today's Lady Kenmore POD

I've seen this ad before but never noticed something until today. The ad claims a newly developed suspension system which reduces noise, however I don't recognize what that would be. Does anyone know?

I've had two of these machines over the years including the coppertone '72 that I have now (the machine in the ad looks to be a '71 or earlier) but I have never seen any differences. I can attest to the quiet, skinny belt, but was there different suspension parts such as suspension rods, rubber rod ends, etc?

If anyone knows the year of this ad I'll check the parts list online and see if I can find anything different that way.

A New York Minute

When I was young, there was a Sears appliance outlet on 14th street near 1st avenue. It was only there for a couple of years but I remember the POD machine in the front of the store. It was probably one of the only Kenmores I ever coveted; I remember it had a plastic "hood" that levered down to cover the control panel like a reptilian second eyelid. It seemed like a silly "whistle" for someone who loved bells and whistles. I remember too that wacky agitator with the extendible fins that took me two or three "tries" to figure out how it worked (you actually had to pull the agitator up by what would have been its "cap" and turn it--looked like a very flimsy arrangement and yet another "Lady Kenmore bell and/or whistle). I loved the colors on the control panel, though and the white porcelain tub, which, IIRC wasn't even the super capacity version. That was featured on a much more BOL model.

What was nice about that store too was the salespeople didn't bug you if you just wanted to look at the merchandise. Right on the opposite corner of 14th Street was an old Ma & Pa department store that was the last place I ever saw a Philco Washer and Dryer for sale.

The four mounting grommets for the motor were different on the QuietPak design, and the motor mounting brackets to accommodate them.

I had the '73 version for 23 years and the adjustable agitator was excellent and not flimsy at all. The 'hood' as you call it was a nice feature, with it closed you had a sleek uncluttered look. It also served to turn the built in light on and off.

Had this site been around and I aware of it in '96 odds are I'd still have the set, as it is I only have the dryer in storage...
