Today's Phoenix Find

Look what the swapmeet gods bestowed upon me today. Only $45 for the pair! So far I know the washer spins but needs a couple of hoses underneath so water testing is out of the question and the lid is missing on the detergent dispenser (anyone have a spare?). Dryer condition unknown as of yet but the drum is pristine and the original bottle of Sears air freshener is still there with freshener still in it. Cosmetically both are pretty clean with only a few minor rust spots. They are 1970 models.

New finds

Well a BIG Congrats to you on your new find!! It is rare to find machines of this age in a matched set. Very nice with the light up consoles and all. They look to be in very nice shape,with no dents or rust that I can see. Please show us some detailed photos when you can. WP/KM are one of my favorites.

Wonderful set...even in vintage avocado! I had no idea those air freshener things were still around at that point.

Did you find them at a home, or in when of those shops?

Upon closer examination of the washer, the whole drain trap assembly is missing including hoses, but luckily I saved that whole unit with hoses from a '74 Kenmore that I stripped for parts. Hopefully it will fit this one. I'm especially happy that the lights have a nice clear white shine. Usually they are yellowed from age. None of the keys show any wear either. I actually bought them for Todd (Washerlover) and just delivered them to his house. Next week I'll work on installing the drain trap & hoses and see what she does.

WOW, the same washer for two different people in the same week and in such good shape overall. Other than Maytag, Seas had one of the icest Avocado hues at the time. Congratulations Jay & Todd.

New Additions

What a find, indeed! Jay found these and didn't want to let them go so I said pick 'em up and I'll give them a good home! I'm off to Minneapolis this week for a business trip (and to see Unimatic 1140's collection!) but when I return, I'm getting those babies up and running!

I'll post "action" pics showing that beautiful Vari-Flex agitating away as soon as I can!

I was 7 y.o. @ the time but I do remember those.
Wasn't the washer 29" wide by 25" deep?

I LOVED the sound of the wig-wag engaging and dis-engaging. I'd open the lid during spin a half-dozen times just to hear it and watch the tub stop and start.

I'm still amazed that Whirl-mores do/did so well sales-wise when they were so much more mechanically involved (then) than say a Maytag.

How are the dryer drums? Are they prone to blue and green stains and to losing their finish as are today's Whirl-mores?
Does it have a stationary back, or a revolving "mesh" back?
