All the "fun" I had opening those old Maytag lids, breaking open the glass tubes and playing with the mercury. There were a lot of those old machines traded in. At one time I had a small jar full of the stuff. My friends thought is was "way cool" too. I really should be dead by now but there doesn't seem to be any effects...unless of course exposure to mercury has something to do with enlarged fat cells and gaining weight.

I got to the point where I could crack'em open like a hard-boiled egg

And to think that some of us "older" members had those as fillings in our teeth many years ago. All my original fillings have been removed and redone. I really do not want dentures, so I take care of them.
