Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I mainly just us Tide original powder. Largely now because it is the only powder left on the shelf at my local supermarket.

It seems like those of us who prefer powder will have to hope that the Mexican manufacturers will start making HE formulas at some point.

Even though my Neptune's manual claims it will tolerate non-HE detergent, I'd rather not take any chances and so, I'm stuck using liquid detergent.

In USA only TOL powders would be Tide with Bleach (or whatever P&G calls it nowadays), Persil (from Germany), and Miele (also from Europe).

The last two are easily found online and or in some local shops.

Liquid, gel or pods you have Tide (various versions), Persil (both American made by Henkel/Dial, and imported from Germany).

Mind you much of this comes down to what you are washing on a routine basis.

If household routinely generates lots of laundry with heavy soils, various stains (food, beverage, oil, etc...), blood, etc... then you'll want something with heavy duty cleaning power from top shelf.

OTOH if we're talking about dress shirts, lightly worn garments, bed and bath linens, then other options may suffice.

Keep in mind liquid or gel format products do not contain (oxygen) bleaching agents, but powders do. Some stains simply will not shift totally without some sort of bleach. So you may have to keep either chlorine or oxygen based bleach product handy if you go with liquids exclusively.

This person has done some decent reviews on various laundry products, you might want to have a read.

Powdered detergents

I saw Tide w/Bleach and Tide w/Downy (both powder) on the shelf at a local target near Worcester MA.

Right now I use Tide w/Bleach powder for everything. I think it works great, low sudsing when dosed right and keeps the whites white and clothes don't have strong perfume scent.

I also have a box of Amway SP8 powder that seems to do a good job too.  Very light fragrance.

TOL

My Favorite right now is Tide OXI, but Tide Ultra Stain Release is great too. I used the Target version of Tide Ultra Stain Release FREE (without scent and dye) on a few loads of toddler clothes last night. All of the clothes came out spotless and look significantly better. Far less pilling, not nearly as dingy, much cleaner feeling, and they smell much better, albeit not as well in the loads washed in cold and cool. This was actually without my typical ammonia (LOL). You could definitely tell that her mother was using a less than adequate detergent, low water temperature, too much detergent, or her washer has poor rinsing.
