Tom & Jerry to be censored...

Well Put Chuck!

Things have become more Orwellian than we would like to believe. Slowly, ever slowly (like the boiling frog) our civil rights are being taken away by some of the same people that cite the First Amendment like a boy crying wolf.

I don't think most people are seeking totally non-pc entertainment. There will always be something out there that has the potential to offend everyone at some point in time. What do we do, censor every single potential offensive remark, image, or action? If that's the case, give me back Tom the cat puffing on a filterless cigarette and take away the bare breasts flashed during the "family hour" on network television.

what does it matter. i can't find these good old cartoons on anywhere on TV anymore. They're gone, replaced by more violent Anime.
Hypcrites, if they're censoring Looney Tunes, then they have NO business putting ANY Anime on TV.

censoring T&J silly,

and I really have my "issues" with political correctness.
On the other hand, my first semester teaching at a Munich University (we don't have PC in Germany) I had an experience which taught me that some limits to people being offensive are needed.
A student who was not the brightest bulb on the tree asked me a question during a lecture which the other 300+ students most certainly knew the answer to (one of those things which is the same in both German and English). Before I could answer, a student behind him restated his question - mocking his stutter - and demanded that I not waste "her" time with providing an answer for such an idiot.
I kicked her out of my course.
The problem, I think, is the complete humourlessness and general schadenfreude of so many people.
With all the serious problems facing us what a pity to waster our time and efforts censoring such a simple cause of joy as the Tom and Jerry cartoons.

thanx Dan, for the link. we need to remember, when tom & jerry AND WB/looney tunes/merry melodies cartoons were released, the intended audience was not exclusively children. the shorts were intended for adult audiences, as well as youngsters. its been recent times when WB/tom-jerry cartoons where thought of as *childrens* entertainnment.

What a load of waffle!!!!

I cannot believe these P.C. morons, these people must not work in real jobs and must have had no childhood,so they think no-one else has either.
I grew up watching plenty of cartoons as a little kiod and also as a teenager(he says blushing),and I was never influenced to blow someone's head off with a shotgun or belt them over the head with a frying pan.
Also my favourites tended to be the super hero ones and I very soon learnt that they were just imagination, because I used to run around saying SHAZAM! to see if I would turn into Captain Marvel, guess what I didn't.
These professional pains in the backside are destroying the childhoods of the latest generation of kids.
This makes me glad that I do not have any kids to tell the truth, because others have more control over them than you do.
Cheers folks.
Steve.
P.S. All together now:
SHAZAM!!!!!!!,
Oh darn!still doesn't work.
L.O.L. L.O.L. L.O.L.

Re: Cartoons

When these cartoons were made it wasn't meant to be degrading it was to show how different people react to different situations and show the eccentric qualities of different people and to make it funnier not to put anybody down. Because at the time Tom and Jerry were made this is how people lived and it was supposed to make us laugh at oursleves. For instance if you took a white woman from the northeast to play the part of Mammy Two Shoes it wouldn't be as funny as a Black woman from the south. Am I making any sence at all do you get what I am saying? I hope so. These cartoons were not meant to put anybody down or make them look stupid. They were just meant to be funny.

Another example of politically correct, nanny state, pandering to wooly minded do-gooders and it makes me PUKE. I decide what I watch on TV and if I don't like it, I turn it off. The problem with the world today is that no-one wants to take responsibility for anything and expect everything done for them. RANT RANT RANT
