stains

"In fact, I was a little disappointed that stains didn't come out of my dish towels and handkerchiefs."

If they were the type of stains that are set by hot water, NOTHING will get them out EVER

Bleach

Thanks Toggle for the backing up of using bleach. I have been doing laundry for over forty years. Chlorine bleach if used properly works very well. I have had towels lay wet for a week, a camping bag with wet smelly dirty socks and tee shirts. A little bleach added to a hot wash, and the load came out sparkling clean. My one neighbor brings me articles of clothing that she cannot get the stains out, but I get them out. Yes, you have to know how much Oxi Clean or bleach to use. Bleach can be used on light clothes and if the towels are hunter green, less tha 1/8 cup would work. I ver very rarely have to throw out an article of clothing because of a stain. I use a number of stain removers also, not just bleach. However, on whites, lights or light colored towels, I also got out the SOUR smell. On nice days I do hang clothes out to dry. Also, EVERYONE should know that you should not add fabric softener to towels.
