I am sure many of you are in the same boat. With all this new technology comes a bunch of new wires to plug in and get all twisted about. I complained to my friends Mark and Martha that I had to work on getting that horrible snarl of wires untangled. They told me that they LOVE to do that sort of thing and so they did!

Here's Martha getting this hooked up with that.

Here's some of my work

at a TV station up in Harrisonburg. I didn't do it all alone...had the help of some co-workers!

All I can say is............

Wow, I am glad I am not her. My back feels for her!

Oh, and the wires look much better! LOL

That tongue reminds me of the best way to test if a 9-volt transistor battery is good...lick the terminals! If you get zapped, the battery is good! Licking that power supply to test if it's good is probably NOT a good idea though!

I've done a few industrial control systems where the cabling was as thick as your arm going into the terminal blocks....

NJ transit's electrical substations are all cable tray overhead, and typically you've got 20 or more multicounductor cables comming from the low side of the death house, plus a LOT more running around between the cabinets...

Thankfully, remote I/O racks are starting to gain acceptance in the industry....

As I was reading your post, the writing style seemed familiar. "It sounds like that guy from MTRA". And so I looked at the name, and I see that it was. I've been reading your stuff for years. I mostly lurk on Usenet, but when I post there it is as "Wally Sevits".

I would think it must mean the "third rail" voltage-and yes out here at the transmitter is plenty of cables as big as your arm-and even larger-stay away from those!Love that rack wiring in the TV station racks-if only my rack cabling was that nice-beautiful!I have wired several racks-but my wiring wasn't that nice.
