Top 5 things to never put in the dishwasher

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Feeback mechanism; What a concept!

Personally much of the stuff I have seen as tag sales, garage sales, yard sales and estate sales is greasy as hell when hand washed.

If it looks dirty or feels dirty after having been washed...guess what? It was not effectively done; try again!

Dawn degreaser, lye-based oven cleaner, and the dishwasher are your best friends when it comes to grease and slime removal.

I don't machine-wash heirloom porcelain (with silver or gold trim) or fine crystal. I also hand wash high quality knives (mine are by Wüsthof and Henckels, either purchased in Germany or at Williams-Sonoma).

Otherwise, it all goes in the dishwasher: plastic cutting boards (Cuisinart), stainless flatware, non-metallic porcelain, and my pots and pans. Mine are MOL Cuisinart "Everyday Stainless", which I don't think they make any more, but they are similar to the $200 set sold today by Costco: copper sandwich bottoms which do not curl up the sides like All Clad. All-steel construction but without the fine mirror finish of All Clad. Since I don't have to worry about preserving a fine finish (which still looks nice after eight years of owning the cookware), I can put them in the dishwasher without worry. Sometimes they get white mineral deposits on the inside bottoms; if I boil some water and add a teaspoon of citric acid, these deposits dissolve and vanish.

Other household items I clean in the dishwasher include soap dishes from the bathrooms, and the dispenser from my FL washer!! I have four large aluminum jelly roll pans and I clean those as well, by removing the upper rack (Bosch) and using the tall items sprinkler. I use foil, parchment paper, or silicone with the pans, so I am not concerned about perfect mint appearance, I just want them clean.
