I am in the process of buying a new house. I am seriously considering a TOP load HE washer TOL Maytag Bravos model with the heater the company I work for has discount program with Whirlpool I can get the washer dryer pair for 1100.00 Any feedback? Consumer Reports gives it a pretty good rating.

Maytag Bravos 850

Found that they clean very well, but seem they wrinkle more than a front loader.
Difference noted when you line dry.

But... didn't they stop the production of Calypsos due to a class action lawsuit thingy?

I like those top loaders... especially the ones with the see through lid :-P

Hi aegokocarat I think the lawsuit has been resolved by now but I was reading somewhere that these machines are no longer being produced because of that. I shared a link below where I found some info.

i dident realy understand what the customer was talking about, haier washers fail all the time with crocs of repares but ahh ive just confused my self

Top Load HE's

I don't understand how these can clean bigger items like drapes and oversize bedding can someone help here?
Thank you :)

I can beat that!

I dont'really understand how these machines clean. Whenever I see them in action,
everything seems to just bob around, but not turnover. It would seem to me that whatever was on the bottom mitht get clean, but abraided. Could someone post a video that would prove my fears wrong.
Thanks,
David

I have used both the Whirlpool and the LG. The Whirlpool(Whirlpool,Maytag,Some Kenmores) did not get clothes as clean and well rinsed and spun out as the LG and the LG has a 10 year motor warranty. It is all stainless steel including its impeller that will not scratch up as easily as Whirlpools will causing fabrics to ware out from the scratches on the impeller.Like the older Speed Queens, the more ware that is put on the impeller the smoother it gets.LG has also improved their customer support now that Sears has them making close to 60% of Kenmore appliances. The Sears "Fleet" carries parts and accessories on their trucks.

how they work

Well its simple. Basically instead of havin an agitator in da middle of da drum, u have a pulsator (like a fan) dats da size of da bottom of da drum. U put da washing in and this pulsator spins da washin around so the machine detects the weight and then uses an appropriate water level. Then the machine fills and washes. When the pulsator turns the washin also turns n moves through the water. Newer machines have pulsators designed to make special water currents (like my samsung) so that the currents push and pull the washing through the water (up and down) to get them clean. Because of this motion it uses less water. The samsung also has a mist shower that sprays the water ( by the use of a circulation pump) over the clothes every time the pulsator spins.

Whirlpool Cabrio

This is a video that I made when we first picked up the Cabrio back in 2006. It gets everything that we throw at it clean. Once a month I take it apart and clean the outer drum, lint filter, dispensers and inner tub. The only problem with HE top loads is that they build up gunk like a front loader. The Video shows excellent turn over, even when the machine switches over to a more gentle agitation.. .right when the furnace shut off. lol

The Cabrio Video

Thanks for posting the video, that seems like it is using more water than other cabrios, am I wrong in that?

Sheet Cycle

I think that video is of the bedding/sheet cycle. Other cycles use less water and the clothing doesn't move as well.

HE TL WASHERS

I would get the new WP built BD TL HE machines, they are already doing much better than The bigger and more expensive DD machines. The DD machines are having serious durablity issues with the main shaft and bearings, the design of the new BD machines is far superior and if it should fail will be much less expensive and easier to repair.

The LG-GE Harmony machines have been very unimpressive washers in build quality and durability [ way too many plastic parts, even the washers base frame is plastic and the cabinet is so thin it will bend if you bump into it ]. LG is at a huge completive disadvantage because of shipping costs and if you take a good look inside many of thier products you can see that under all the glitter there isn't much. And good luck getting one fixed after 5 or 10 years they are not designed to come apart and be repaired, most of the Korean appliances are basically throw away appliances if they have problems.
