The Electra (whose punishment for falling in love with her father was to be metamorphosed into a Bottom-of-the-Line appliance with a rather dowdy formica top).
I had this machine in my first apartment and for all its simplicity it did the job quickly, elegantly and quietly:
I've always liked top load dishwashers and front load washers. I guess that's why I'm here. A built-in rollout dishwasher with the swing up racks would be sweet.
We have the KDA-7 in Harvest in my mom's apartment. It still washes fine and looks brand new. This last model did not have the pull and guide bar on the front.
Man--I'd love to have one of these machines. Saw one in a friends house when I was about 13 and got a very quick peak inside and just fell in love and wanted one ever since.
I'm pretty sure this was the last model of topload portables. and that production stopped in 1976 when the 18 series came out.
The toploaders must not have been very cost-effective to make since they shared so few parts with the rest of KAs dishwashers.
My parents bought this dishwasher in 1971 in avocado green. All of their other appliances were white...the only reason they bought the avocado was that it was on sale..lol. It was a great dishwasher and I took in with me in 1979 when I got married and used it for several years until we remodeled the kitchen and bought a top of the line built in Superba...we sold the house about 10 years later...I miss that machine! At the time we remodeled I gave the portable to my aunt who still has it and uses it!
