Hotpoint

Hey Ozzie.
Nah I hate those shitty little hotpoint things we have now.

Long story, but I need something that will deal with pissy sheets.

I did have an empress and a couple of twinnies in the garage. We sold the house on the quick and all had to go to to the dump.I did give se steve a servis twin.

Sods law,you get ridda stuff then you need.

Don't really want a twin tub as I need something to put in the garage and there is no sink.

I would really love an old hotpoint top load and have have been looking, but not many around now.

May have to give AL a ring and try and prize something from him.

I do have a thermoair spin dryer if anybody wants it..It's in treorchy wales which is where we bought a house so would need to be collected from there.

I can ask around but I am not aware of anything on the go at the moment. The problem you will have with an old Hotpoint is that they hold so much water that it will take an age for it to heat from cold if you do not have a hot fill and even if you do it will still take a while if you are aiming for 95C washes.

Personally I would look out for a Miele (there have been several half decent ones at reasonable cost listed this weekend alone) front loader - even a Little Giant - which should be more than sufficient to deal with the issue with a good hot wash and a decent detergent.

Miele

Hey Al Long time..

The reason I wanted an older hotpoint was just the sheer amount of water they hold.

Long story short there is a 94 year old couple who live in the street,Having known the faces,it was nothing more than a Hello or a good morning etc.

Both are quite inferm and I am now doing laundry for them.Bedding being a huge problem because of bladder issues..Terrible and sad when you are alone with no help.

They do not have space in their kitchen for a washer otherwise I would buy one for them, so I want to put something in my garage.

Not bothered about how long it takes to heat.Lots of boiling water and suds are needed for the job and I don't think a front loader really up for the job unless a hoover electron or something.

I guess also a twinnie good for the job as you could have a serious boil.

Maybe something will turn up

I applaud your efforts in helping out your neighbours but honestly I could not disagree with you more - a top loader will take ages on cold fill and cost a fortune in water and electricity charges. And may not even achieve your intention of throughtly washed, sanitised bedding.

A front loader set with a pre-wash 40C - heating from cold too so a soak/profile wash and bio powder to initially deal with and flush away the soiling followed up with a hot wash - again heating from cold seems to be to be the ideal solution to the problem. A more modern machine like a Miele (or even Bosch/Siemens) should cover it well - honestly somthing like an Electron, 30+ years old, will not just cut it on the sorts of washes you will be doing unless it has been rebuilt from the ground up.

However given the sort of money you could be looking at for a decent used machine you might like to have a look at a new Beko WTG921B3W at £199 which got a rave review recently from Which with a test score of 76% and Best Buy status. Its not going to take any longer than a HP toploader filling from cold believe me - I have done it and I know! It has a 9kg capacity (twice the capacity of a vintage machine)
so there may not need to be laundry done every day if you dont mind the sheets gathering up for a day or two. I dont think a vintage machine could stand up to the sort of use you would need to be putting it through for very long

Pete I have to agree with Al a Miele giant can have a sluice cycle which will automatically rinse and flush followed by a 95c wash cycle they used them in nursing homes so more than adequate for doing sheets and can run all day if need be I think you may struggle finding anything vintage that will keep going these days if used more than once a week.
Personally I would use a Miele and if you have the supply to run both the heaters in a little giant its can reach its temp very quickly.
