Re: Welcome Ben:

Welcome Ben, "WOW" what a great collection you've got of Toy Washer's. How long have you been collecting them? Some of them naturally the Westinghouse is/was here in America, but I've not heard of some of the Brands that you've got in your collection. I had a small collection when I was a Kid {way back when} and I often think about them and how I wish I still had them now, they would really be worth a lot of Money, but I would have never sold them, if I did still have them, I would just add them to my other Kitchen Small Appliances that I collect.

I'm so glad that I'm the first one of the Club Site to be able to finally welcome someone, before anyone else. It is quite a large Membership that it has grown to thru the years and as you have no doubt seen, we try our best to help each other out with problems and giving opinion's about many needs or wants between us with repairs and even purchases of items. I hope that you will enjoy the Site as much as I/We do and that you will be able to start a real collection sometime soon of actual Laundry Equipment Machines.

By the way, what brands of Washer's and Dryer's are used in Italy? What are some of your Favorite Brands/Years?

Peace and Happy Laundry Days, Steve

welcome message

Hithere, Steve
and thank you so much for your kind welcome message: the pictures you saw on yahoo photos are just a part of my collection (at the moment I've 36 toy washing machines!). It's partially true what you say about the Westinghouse Laundromat: the real model is, of course, from the USA, but the toy has been produced in Japan, at the end of the '50 I guess. But in my collection there is only one "real" american washer (a toy produced in the USA, I mean): a Wolverine washer-dryer (please watch the attached picture).

In Italy many brands of washers are used. Produced in Italy: CANDY,INDESIT,SANGIORGIO/OCEAN,REX,ZANUSSI,ARISTON,SMEG,ZEROWATT,ZOPPAS. Produced out of Italy: MIELE,AEG,BOSCH,WHIRLPOOL,HOOVER. No american washers, as the standards (power supply, dimensions etc.) are totally different between you and us! At mine I've a front-loader Miele Novotronic 916 (I bought it in 1994, May) and a Bosch dishwasher bought some months ago.

Finally my favourite brands are: Candy (italian) washing machines built during the 60's, Miele (german) built during the 70's: the Miele washing machines are the ones first in Europe with a very high spinning speed (1000 rpm the models produced at the beginning of the 70's).

Hope we'll spend some time more to talk about washing machines. And you, do you have a collection?

Ben

toy washer running

At the moment I've nothing to show...in a few days I'll post some short mpegs showing a machine while running. There are some that have a timer, and a quite-real wash cycle (pre-washing, washing, rinsing, final spinning)!!!

Nice collection there, Ben and welcome! It's amazing how detailed some of them are - easily recognized brands and styles. I have a small collection of toy washers too, but most are older, metal toys and show their age. This picture is of me on my 4th birthday playing with a washer/dryer set bought from Sears catalog. They didn't last long but I've since replaced them in my collection now.

Thanks for sharing your toys with us!!

Wow!

A toy Lavamat? Jon, you need to get one!

The most amazing one, I think is the top-loading-horizontal axis-front-loading Laundromat! How cool is that?

Sure puts Suzy Homemaker to shame!

Re: Structo, Similar to your Wolverine Washer:

Hey! Ben, I had a similar Washer to your Wolverine Washer, called a Structo. It had an Agitator and a Spin Basket and you would put the Agitator in to Wash, then pull it out and replace it with the Spin Basket. There was a Door on the Front of the Machine, that opened to get to a lever that had the Gears attached to. You would have the Lever in the lower position for Wash and Up for Spin and there was a Crank-Handle on the Right side of the Cabinet to operate the Washing and Spinning. It had a Clear Plastic Lid with a "Dimple" in the Middle to hold the Agitator and Spin Basket in the Tub, while they were Washing/Spinning. It was almost identical to yours, including mine being a Pink Color Cabinet. I also had a real neat Wringer Washer, that had 2-Cranks, 1-for the Agitation and 1-for the Wringer. It was a Round Tub style Cabinet and I forget the Brand that it was. Oh! How I wish I had those Washers now, just thinking about what they would be worth now, even though I wouldn't ever sell them, I would just add them to the rest of my items that I collect.

OMG!!!!

I had that Casdon Hoover toy washer when I was a kid!!! That was my favouritest toy ever, and I also had a Casdon Hotpoint Dishwasher to match! Unfortunately I dropped both down the stairs one day when taking them downstairs to play with them in the kitchen and they both ended up smashed all over the parquet hall floor :-(.

Veg,

How are ya?? Haven't seen ya for a while... I'd love a Lavamat toy washer!!! But to be honest, I think the real thing is stil much much much better :-D

Ohhh almost forgot to add...

I *almost nearly* bought this today when I was in Toys R Us!! Just a shame I didn't have enough confidence to buy it :-(. Maybe it's one of these things that you should mail order only to save embarassment LOL.

Take care all,

Jon

Greetings Benedetto!

I love your collection. Thankyou for sharing it with us! I have the Casdon Hoover at home sitting on my Laundry shelf next to a Casdon Hotpoint!

I love the Russian toy washing machine, it makes me wonder what kind of washing machines they have/had available on the Russian market. Slovenias Gorenje has its washing machines sold around the world, under its own name of others, but I dont think Ive ever seen/heard of any Russian manufacturers.

Thanks again Benedetto!

I used to collect houslehold junk, bottle tops, boxes, toilet roll tubes, packaging and made my own washing machines as akid. I remember I used to take great care with the control panels, but agitators were always tricky! I once made a DAA out of a kitchen paper roll and a lot of electrical tape!

Shame I dont have any of them now but maybe, when i have a quiet weekend, I should try again!

welcome/benvenuto

Sia Benvenuto Benedetto !
Tu sei il primo Italiano che rincontro qua .
Spero di vedere tue gioielli lavorando.

Thanks for sharing your pictures!

blue & yellow Washer and Dryer Set

I had the washer too!! but i've looked for it on e-bay but did not remember where I got it. so Sears had it? I'd love to find it again.

broken appliances

"Unfortunately I dropped both down the stairs one day when taking them downstairs to play with them in the kitchen and they both ended up smashed all over the parquet hall floor :-(."

That's what E-Bay is for. I've "re-built" my childhood from E-Bay. I remember wanting a Suzy Homemaker washerand range when they came out, but like Lawrence, I didn't have the "guts" to ask for them. So now I have both of them PLUS the sink/dishwasher combination I didn't know existed.

Arrroooh,

I also used to make toy washing machines out of cardboard when I was a kid, and used to cut control panels out from brochures and stuck them on the top of the boxes. As I got older I also used to build them out of my K'Nex set (I had a K'Nex electric motor), built a transmission and everything tos hift from wash to spin... if only I remember how I made it, hehe.

Jaune,

Believe me, I've kept my eye out on ebay for years now and neither have turned up. Although we've all been banned from using ebay by my parents at the mo, younger siblings kept buying stuff and Dad ended up with a lot of negative feedback... I guess I'll not tell the other 2 Dad's passwords anymore :-/

Jon

Yes, I had the green and yellow washer/dryer from Sears . . and also a dishwasher and stove, and I think a sink/cabinet.

I made a complete control panel for a Whirlpool LAA-9800, including a timer dial carefully drawn to scale, all arranged on a piece of cardboard. Then I also did an LDA-9800.
