Transporting Frigidaire 1-18

I'm driving to Detroit to pick up my newly purchased windowlid poppy 1-18, and have a minivan. I'll have to lay it on it's side. Is it ok to lay the washer over on it's side for transport?

I don't think there is anything to damage, but what do I know about it, I've never had a 1-18 apart. Are there fluids to drain from the gearbox output shaft or suspension elements that will be strained? I sure would get a mess if I layed a maytag transmission on it's side.

side/front/back, given a choice is there a difference?

I recall reading:
first fill with warm glycerin water to condition bellows before using.
Clean drive wheels / idlers with alcohol to prepare for running.
etc.

Anyone have a 1-18 maintenance manual they no longer need?

For a 1-18 there are no gearboxes...just sheer simplicity of rollers. They dont need anything..no grease, oil, or anything. When I got my 1-18 from Connecticut I laid it down in the back of the truck and hauled it back to Maine. They are good machines but can be a mega bitch to work on. I had to replace a belt and thank gawd that there is only one belt...but its an ordeal...have to loosen the motor mounts then take off all the hoses to the pump and thats to put it on...I have not used my 1-18 in a few years now...she is retired but I still have it...eventually I will part with her...I had my fun.

Got washer yesterday

I had a long trip, there and back again....But no story or life changing experiences to tell. The trip to Detroit was in light traffic with no wrong turns!

Excepting road trip vacations I find 8 hrs hwy is a bit much for solo travel. A few times I thought the washer wanted to sit up front with me, it tried hard to hop into the passenger chair.

My garage now houses a window lid poppy red 1-18. Fine looking , better than photos.

I will begin excavating the basement to make a path for it to the workbench. And after testing to verify it's hydraulic health will then be installing it in the slot where the A606 is now.

You are So Lucky and I am jealious.I can't find thoese anywhere down here in the south just a TON of Filter Flows.I am happy for ya........
