I wish you all uncomplicated, pleasant travel there and a great time, as well as an uncomplicated trip back.

I don't really have to say "take lotsa digicam snaps," do I?

Love and laughter,

Lawrence/Maytagbear

Thanks Lawrence...

we're outta here for O'hare in about 30 minutes, I am really looking forward to it!

Thanks for the best wishes, Lawrence! As for the digital pictures, I will definitely have you covered on those, just like last time :)

I'm bringing the video camera as well and will have all summer to try my hand at making a DVD. Although a couple of music videos after the trip are mandatory!

Glenn, I'm sorry you can't make it this time around, but I'll keep you posted on the events. I'll have the laptop with me, I wonder if you could pop in the chatroom late on Friday or Saturday night?

Have a good time, and please no mile high antics on the aircraft! Be nice to the F/A's (provided they aren't already surly) and enjoy your flights!
I can't wait to see the photos and the videos from this event.

Well, I'm back at home. My flight was cancelled due to weather, then if I could get to Dallas later today, no space available on any flight to Tuscon. So, I will start again tomorrow!!!

Looking forward to seeing pics...

Have a great time everyone! Venus if you see this, check out my new Sunbeam.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles...

We have arrived, after an all day odyessy that has worn both of us to a frazzle.
As we were going out the door at 7 this morning, Michael's phone rang, it was the airline, our non-stop flight from Ohare to Tucson had CANCELLED!
After some wrangling we were re-booked to connect thru Dallas.
We get to O'Hare(driven by my father in my car)and behold, we're on standby, #'s 2 and 3 in line for the 10:30 am flight to Dallas.
The flight from Dallas to Tucson was to leave at 1:45pm.
We made the Dallas flight, which was didn't leave Chicago til 11am, landing in Dallas at 1:35pm. We ran from one gate to other to catch our flight, arriving with 2 minutes to spare.
The flight was closed. Didn't matter if we had seats and boarding passes, we were not getting on that flight!
Not to worry though, she's put us on standby again for the 2:55 flight, leaving from a gate on the other side of the airport.
{Insert blood curdling scream here}
We got to ride some train thing around what seemed like the whole state of Texas before the stop for gate D33 came up.
More waiting, and more nail biting to see if we'd get called.
They called Michael first, then finally me.
I would have let them duct tape me to the wing if it would have got me on the flight!
So now we are here in the Hampton Inn, awaiting the start of the festivities tomorrow.
Hertz gave us a bright red Ford Mustang Convertible to drive!
The room is nice too, and there's a heated pool and hot tub as well.
The irony is the weather, kinda overcast and a bit chilly. Almost what we left in Chicago this morning.
No matters, we are here and excited about meeting everyone and seeing the appliances.
Let the washing begin!!!

More to come...

OMG!!

What are we in for? LOL Was the flight cancelled because of the weather in Chicago? Bob, I'll pose the same question to you as well? Was the bad weather in Texas?

Jeff, you must have been riding the train around DFW!! I hate that airport!! It is a city unto itself.

I hope the weather doesn't stay overcast and chilly for long! Better days ahead, right guys!!

Yick

This is actually Nate (roto204)...

Damned weather! DAMNED WEATHER!!

We go from 90+ degrees to 60 with intermittent rain. Well, the good news is that tomorrow looks like less certain storms and more scattered stuff. That, and it seems to have the tendency to clear-up by evening, which is fortunate.

In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for us...this low-pressure system is supposed to stay put.

Best wishes to all!

Of course it had been my desire to attend, but things didn't work out that way. I have houseguests of my own right now (from Arizona!) and could not take the time off work (quit snickering, Veg!)

I know everyone will be having a great time-playing with all those lovely machines. I am grateful to have seen the goodies at Greg's and Robert's homes. So fun when we can get together "fo' real" and talk story with one another.

Maybe there will be an '08 version that I will be able to attend. In the meantime, did you all know that I live in a major tourist destination?

Venus!

Call the airlines NOW and make sure things are ok.
We were told this morning it was bad weather in Chicago last night that messed everything up.

There were times today I was not sure we'd get here...
Michael was certain they'd lose our luggage too!

Nate the weather is ok, we came for the company, the rest is all background...

To those dealing with airport fiascos

Sorry for what you had to go through. Interesting because we just had a conversation the other day about how airlines abuse their customers bigtime!

We're taking the 9:20 nonstop from IAH tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will all go smoothly like last year...looking forward to seeing everyone and playing with some new, unfamiliar machines! :)

Oh...

and because of the lovely liquid regulations (feh!), this is the first time we're checking our luggage (save for the laptop and cameras). I'm really keeping my fingers crossed!

oh yeah...

I won't mention any names of the airline that abused us today, but their initials are American Airlines.

JEFF, THAT 1:45 AA FLIGHT OUT OF DALLAS WAS THE ONE IS WAS SPOZE TO BE ON!! I'm now staying athte Hmpton, that's another story.

The weather was soupy this morning. I guess I'm aviation stupid, but I had THOUGHT that with the new airport affliated with Ft. Hood &&& able to supprot limitless size plane and have sophisticated electronics, I was gonna avoid this crap from now on.

Oh J*sus Mary C**ist does it ever end with the stupid weather over there? I'm so glad I'm out of there. This is not the weather I was expecting for Tucson, I better check the forecaset and recheck what I packed. We just had icky weather for days and it's now improved, so hearing this I don't even want to go. But I will, to see people. I'll just keep telling myself it will be fun!

Jeff, American is the absolute worst airline, and Dallas is the absolute worst, stupidest airport I have ever seen in my life. Never again on American Airlines unless I have absolutely no other choice. I almost missed a connection once going to visit Roger because that stupid*ss train got stuck between stops. Nice city, sucky airport.

Poor Bob every time he tries to travel he's punished for wanting to have any fun. Pah.

Airlines & Delays

What happens with the airlines is that weather can be bad in one part of the country and planes get stuck there, or even worse have to divert to other cities. This puts them off schedule and usually they end up not where they are susposed to be. So if a plane that is flying say Los Angeles-Seattle diverts to Portland, Or,due to fog in Seattle then eventually it will have to get to Seattle to dump off the passengers. Now this same plane may later that evening fly New York to somewhere in Florida. But it's stuck on the west coast hours behind. So that segment may be cancelled.
Remember, when weather delays occur it's for your own safety. And it also puts stress on the airline passengers as well as the airline crews.
If you ever get cancelled due to weather or overbooking, the best thing to do is get on your cell phone and call the airline reservation center. They can book you another seat on another flight and by the time you get finished waiting in the long, long line at the ticket counter you will already have a reservation. Also, you can nicely ask the agent if your ticket can be transfered over to another airline who may have an earlier flight to your destination.

Whirlcool, you are so right. Having been through enough weather delays, I've come to see and appreciate them for what they really are. I just wish the weather would cooperate so they would not be necessary!

I even had issues going from LA to San Francisco a month or so ago, because of inclement weather in our old friend DALLAS. Same thing coming back, but I forget from where our plane came late getting to the airport that time.

Is it just me, or has the weather been even more uncooperative than usual much of this season.

Now sometimes when an airline has a cancellation of a flight from either weather or mechanical issues, sometimes they will substitute a larger aircraft if they have one available for the next flight.
But what usually gets passengers in an uproar is if the weather is bad at the destination but clear at the departure airport, they
point to the window and say "What weather? It's clear outside!"
Yes, weather related delays have been horrible this year. We are in an El Nino year, so everything goes to hell in a handbasket. I can't remember a year where I have spent more time sitting at a gate or in a "penalty box" than I have this year.

informal first night

Robert, Michael and myself went to Roger's tonight where we met Nate, Terry, Greg and John. We had pizza and salad, great conversation, and of course, washers, vacuums and dishwashers!
Its gonna be a great weekend!

Can't wait to see pics, videos and read posts concerning the Tucson weekend! Have fun, everyone!

Bob---You are an AW.ORG celeb; After all, you're the reason we call them BobLoads®. You should have been screaming "Don't you people realize WHO I AM?!!!" at the airport, LOL. Hope your return trip is less eventful.
