They work tiresomely, without the respect their brethren attain.

They usually lack the sof-fic-tick-acious that their cousins enjoy.

Usually found on the curb, abandoned, on a cold, windy day, rain falling on their control panel as they weep tears of the disgrace....

That's right, I put a call out for the lowest of low.

It's time people, we show the respect to the bastards of the appliance world.

These are the BOL of the BOL.
The ones with a the rather bland control panel.
The single knob washer, dryer, or dishwasher.
The gas stove with NO electric, at all.
The white 13 cu. ft. standard defrost refrig. with 2 wire racks.
The Electrolux Silverado Special without so much as a cord winder.
The Ropers, the Hotpoints, the RCA's.
Single level dishwashers with no power tower.
canister vacs with power heads, a plastic hose and a cord attached to the hose.
The ones you find when you scan an appliance brochure that carries the full line and all the way at the bottom, yep there it is.
The "Advertised Specials" you know the ones. "This weekend only" or "special truck-load sale" or buy this XXXX and get a washer FREE.

If they are lucky to make it to the classifieds, its a sign of strength.

My heart goes out to these. Give them a good home.

Lets honor those "builders models"that gave their lives to the person that "upgraded" to a better model and kicked what could be a still working BOL machine to the curb-in the picture note what looks like a RL trash truck lurking nearby.Hope the machines fate isn't "sealed" or Krushed in that truck!

GE sxs no ice service

It is rare to find a SxS frig made after 1980 with OUT a thru-door water and ice dispenser.

There is a separate room at the GE factory for those born with this defect.

True they tried to spruce it up with glass shelves, but this mid 80s SxS wears its defect for everyone to see.

Only $100, someone give it nice home. please.

24" Whirlpool washer

Ok, this is a "pair", but, well, it's almost shameful.

Look at that washer. And then, look at that dryer.
Its like they just wanted to perpetually shame the washer.
"Why can't you be like your Super Capacity, near TOL cousin?"
"look at her all white control panel. Yours is bare aluminum. Look at the options, Good Housekeeping Seal of approval, and she even works on gas ! tisk, tisk"

I can't look at the picture any more.

$250 for both, but, someone,... buy the washer separate. Let them part company. Let the torcher END.

I can actually say I owned this model in the late 90s. Bought at goodwill for a rental unit.... and it worked with no service calls needed, even after an IDIOT tenant who worked at TGI Fridays as a waiter, left change in the pocket and somehow the change got in the pump. sigh.

GE stove basic gas

These were made most all years of the 1990s.

A frequent base model in Mobile Homes.

Most did not have electronic ignition which means, filthy, standing pilot.
Off-gassing of heat and toxic fumes.
And in some places, like Boston, you can't have an appliance with a standing pilot because of the safety issues.

This poor stove has to bare the brunt of all that. It looks innocent enough.
$50

no light, no clock, no self cleaning, no dignity.

Almond hotpoint "little frig"

another No Handles frig.

Notice how many times the ad specifies "little". I find that offensive.

What is little to some, is adequate for others.
Does size really ma.... OK, that's discussion for another time....
moving on

$95

one wire shelf, but, BUT 2, yes TWO, crispers.

"Lets honor those "builders models" that gave their lives to the person that "upgraded" to a better model and kicked what could be a still working BOL machine to the curb"

so true. Often those builders model appliances are basic models with some special feature not listed in the appliance catalogs available to the public.

Builders models are treated like second class appliances.
Then, when they break, what do the owner say "oh, it was just a cheap XXXXXXX"
and go an buy another.
Dirty shame.

A fitting song as the link. Mainly because of the subject,... but also because... it's actually raining here, and it has not rained, here in Konklinn Mir, for like 10 months.

Electrolux LE no parts

made around 1985

This canister was as low as you could go with Electrolux.

There was no automatic control, that ubiquitously, would either shut the machine off or literally open the bag door, when the bag was full.

They couldn't even remove the old bag before fibbing to us about how "Its like new"

And where is the hose, the tools, the floor tool?

$85 complete with major scratches and paint on the wheel.

I have seen the builders model machines in one of the swap shops here-so there is some hope for some of the ones in my area-Some of the apartment homes out here are renovated by the landlord-and fortunately the machines find their way to the Dixon Swap shop in Ayden,NC.You find washers, dryers, sometimes dishwashers, ranges, and fridges. So these can get a second lease on life-folks buy them for their rental places-and even fishing anding hunting camps and clubs buy them.

I'd take the GE gas stove shown in reply #9 for a secondary one down in our basement.  I'd also welcome the one in reply #12.

I don't think that dryer is a Westinghouse, but rather a Norge made product. It looks a lot like the dryer one of my neighbors had that was labeled Magic Chef.

Also, you may think of Hotpoint as BOL, but 50+ years ago, they were GE's fancier line - some of the ranges had fryers and griddles. It was in the late 60's that they began to be marketed as more of a budget line.

"...is a Westinghouse, but rather a Norge made product. It looks a lot like the dryer one of my neighbors had that was labeled Magic Chef."

I think you are right on all accounts. The same base with a different control panel and different name plate.

"Also, you may think of Hotpoint as BOL, but 50+ years ago, they were GE's fancier line "

Isn't it annoying when one appliance line changes its position on the hierarchy tier? Remember when Electrolux was like tops in Vacuums?

Maybe it's a reflection of human nature.

kitchen aid Bol

good eye Xpanam guy,
I have never seen a two button KA. Three button yes, but not a buck-tooth KA.

At the time this was made (estimate 1982) the other models would have had a gold, or gold trimmed control panel. Here this one is with a pale brown, which frankly matches the Coffee color panels nicely.

poor thing only has ONE light. ohh. My first mid 70s KA Superba had 4 or 5 lights.
