Ok, Kenmore Experts. I picked up an 80 Series today, with a Triple Action Agitator, what is the difference between it and a Dual Action?

The fins of the auger of the triple action agitator are curved more downward than the dual action. The auger of the triple action can physically move up and down. The triple action require the 3/4" socket extender to remove the agitator in addition to removing the nut. The triple action also comes a part in pieces unlike the dual action, which can be removed with the agitator in one piece.

I remember the first time I saw a dual action agitator in a Kenmore print ad. I thought maybe the auger section went up-and-down, like a Frigidaire and the bottom half oscillated normally.

I remember thinking, "Hey they combined the best of both worlds!"

Then I saw one in action and realized how wrong I was.

Does anyone remember the very first ones.....

the ad claims you can hear it working.............

that clicking would drive you nuts!

then they remodeled it with the silent DOGS, a better design

never understood why they didn't use the six vane agitator with the auger, not to mention how come kenmores agitators all had the fins at the bottom and never all the way up to the top like the whirlpool surgilator?

Back in the mid 70's and very early 80's Kenmore appliances were just Beefy in appearance and loaded with features. We had 74 or 75 Kenmores, the very next catalogue had the dual action agitator, we had a penta vane. Both the penta vane and penta swirl agitators looked like they were all about "business". The D&M diswashers were beautiful by then they had square racks and 3 spray arms(tiny at the top), the portables weighed a ton with the real wood chopping block top. The electric stoves had that nice angled front that kept splatters from getting all over the front of the stove. I still remember one of their microwaves with a mechanical timer that was like a vertical (time line). Not to get off topic, but I did. Sears WAS really great back then.
