Hi Vacuum collectors,

What do you know about the Tristar? I saw one at a flea market today and fell in love with the little rocket boy. It looked very much like the EX20 shown on the Tristar history site which would date it from 1993 to 1998 although its styling looks much older.

Anyway, I fell in love but don't even know how much the guy was asking because he saw me write down the model on his video surveillance and freaked out saying I was insulting and out of line to be taking notes...

I don't think I'd go back--the guy was way too weird, but I might just keep my eyes open for another if y'all think they actually work well.

Excellent machine-they do VERY well.I sold the later modelsMg1,2 DTD for a little while. The powernozzle on the EX20 is actually better than that on the later models-EX20 was the last of the orig "Compact Design"The later ones were designed when Tri-Star was partially owned by Electrolux.I have an EX20 that I bought new.Still use it on occasion.also its exhaust filter is better.

Tristar

I found a new Tristar vac at a thrift store her in Phx. It was new and still in the box. I paid $50.00 for it. Never used!!!!.... Bill in Az....

Great find for $50 considering what they sell for new. I used to see them quite often being demo'd in malls etc but they seem to have really faded out of sight around here anyways. I always think they look like little piglets LOL

For awhile-TriStar salesmen called them "pigs"-I told them-be careful on the use of the word pig for vacuums-Its now a NSS trademark for their Model "M1" vacuums-these too look like pigs. Two of the M1's I have even have a sticker on them--"The Pig"with a trademark on the sticker. Both vacs-TriStars and M1's look so much like pigs-one friend calls his TriStar "Arnold"TriStars are usually sold DTD.They may have a piublic demo to try to get customers to have one shown in their home.We did a mini-demo at the County Fair here-Rainbow does the same.Anyway that little TriStar Pig eats up dirt like his bigger NSS cousin!

These are nice cleaners, though I favor the older original style ones. Some of them had see through plastic tools with little sparklies in the plastic. I love those!

Oh and Sarah, I definitely would not go back there. You'll come across another if you decide you want one. There was no excuse for your being treated so rudely.

The swap shop operator was sure rude!!
I too like the transparent tools with the "glitter" molded in them-"lux spoiled it all.But theirs still perform well.Supposdly "TriStar" is for sale by Eureka-Electrolux.Maybe some of us could buy it up(wishful thinking) and bring back the "sparkle" tools.I have the transparent sparkle tools that came with my EX20-plan to hang onto them.

Not going back

I think the guy was maybe a little psychotic...I mean, his reaction simply was not normal.

Shame though. Not many places carry old appliances and stuff around here, and I was excited about keeping an eye on his inventory.
