I ordered TSSP and have been using it for about three weeks. I first noticed that regardless of the detergent it's mixed with there are no suds, not even a bubble. The clothes are coming clean and the water shows evidence of pulling soil but they seem a touch harsh feeling. Please suffer the fool late to the party and give me a ball park ratio for mixing TSSP into laundry detergent.

I used STPP for the very first time lastnight. I was happy with the results, although they weren't as drastic as I thought. I guess it takes a few washes to get the full effect. But I am happy with it! There were more suds than usual, although in a couple of loads that were full to capacity there were none, I figured it was because there was more clothes sloshing around than water. I didn't over load the machine, just filled it. I saw that the wash water was dirtier than usual, which was cool. The rinse water had like a few bubbles of suds if any and the water was clear. When they were done, my clothes didn't have a hint of detergent smell at all. Just smelled like water I guess you could say. My whites came out a bit brighter, my socks were definitely cleaner than usual. And a few shirts that were pretty dirty from helping a friend clean a shed came out spotless and clean smelling without any pretreating. I was quite happy with the results and can't wait til the next wash day to use it again. I washed everything in top loading direct drive Whirlpools and my towels in a front loading Huebsh at the laundromat. Used hot water and Arm & Hammer powder that contains Oxy Clean booster. One thing I noticed that Mixfinder also pointed out, was the towels and the jeans especially, felt a bit rough. I figured this was probably because the STPP must have stripped everything of past detergent and softener residue. Which is fine with me, that just tells me everything is getting cleaner. But I'm gonna have to use liquid softener once in a while seeing as how just dryer sheets didn't soften them up that much.

Mixfinder....

Depending on if you're using a front loader or top loader and depending on how hard your water is. Where I live the water hardness is 5.4 gpg which is classified as moderately hard. I used one and a half tablespoons. Check the website of your town to get your water supply testing results to see how hard your water is. Maybe we can better help you figure out how much to use from there. I myself just started using it so I'm still in the trial and error state.

STTP

My understanding is that the STTP to detergent ratio should be approximately 1:3.

I've been using 1 tsp STPP with 1 Tablespoon Charlie's Soap and getting very good results. This is in a small (Euro-sized) front loader.

I used to use about a tablespoon STPP in my old top loader.

hope this helps!

(And I hope what you got was actually STPP and not TSP-- TSP is a "precipitating" water softener... which is probably not much better than plain old washing soda.)

AARRGGHHHH

It was a mind blunder caused by one hand typing faster than the brain. Groan, it is STPP so now can the nice people tell me how much to use?

I was using 1-2 tablespoons in our WP TL direct drive machine.
Rinse looked clean & totally clear, but the water had that slimy feeling from STTP. So I am going to cut it back to 1 tbsp.

In the dishwasher, we use 1 tsp per load. We have noticed the positive effect at 1/2 tsp, and our water is hard.

Thanks and No I'm Not

Thank you for the guidance, Allen. I am using a higher amount of TSPP so I'll cut it back and give it a whirl.
Rich, I am having a hard time keeping up with being a 1 sexual let alone try to achive a tri!

Grace Adler: He wants to have a 3-way. Can you imagine me in a 3-way?

Karen Walker: Honey, I can barely imagine you in a 2-way.

Laundress....

I thought so too. But once they cooled off from being in the dryer, they feel much softer. I just like how they smelled so clean when I pulled them out of the washer. No detergent scent at all, just the smell of clean water, if that makes any sense. And the A&H has a pretty strong but pleasant scent in the box.
