Tucson wash-in IV: Mark's Filter-Flo!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hey you--great pictures, again! Good thing you're a computer kinda boy! Roger sent me a note saying a washin with a Filter Flo was tonight and I couldn't figure out where you were going. Did you see his latest KA dishwasher in gleaming Harvest Gold?? ;-)

Who is this Mark boy and where have you been hiding him? Looks like everyone had a grand time!

I'm glad you're getting all this good practice staging wash-ins, since I know you'll want to repeat them in future for the amusement of your out of town visitors. ;-)

Drop me a line tomorrow and say hi.

What year/model

Is that machine, from the control panel and buttons it looks to be near identical to mine. My mini-basket is plastic though but looks the same, the lint filter is identical, the softener dispenser is slightly different.. Lint Pills..ha.I never knew they had a name.. I get plenty big ones with Ben and Parker. This got me to thinking back why did I buy my GE machine at the time and you know I think it was the mini-basket, but I've only used it a handfull of times, like when you get a call to go somewhere and have to wash something reeeaaal quick, its handy for that with the matching mini-wash cycle. Never had one lick of trouble with my machine either. Oh I remember another reason I bought it.. I'd been to Sears and elsewhere looking and the GE was surprisingly less expensive feature for feature than the Kenmores, at that time anyways around 1989.

Pete, people with pets always swore by GE Filter-flo machines, because of the filter system. Fortunately, with this wealth of washer knowledge, you should be able to keep yours going forever!

WOW!!! Too fun, especially that Mini-Basket! I have one that's sitting unused due to the lack of...well...the machine, LOL!

I definitely need to get a Filter-Flo of my own...perhaps after the 1-18 is all fixed...

Ahh, brings back memories of my 1978 pair. Yes, I am personally guilty of real time placing myself at those same angles as the camera were for the pix. Ross, yes, I loved the sheeting action of the "flo" water coupled with that fast back & forth agitation, the patterns were fascinating to watch. I'd been accustomed to using mini-baskets since 1968. The only thing I found frustrating about mine was that by the time the pause ended and started the first spin, amost all the water had drained out into the big tub. Solution? I moved the timer to spin and wht water drama spewing out the upper holes of the mini-basket. Even when I bought my machine, I still wished it had had the ramp style activator rather than the str8-vane one.

Nate,
Once again you did a fantastic job with the pictures. Great shots of all the action and your narrative can't be beat!
Roger

Welcome to the club Mark, we are all glad you are here. Looks like you guys had another great evening. Nate thanks so much for all the wonderful pictures and captions. The mini basket looks like fun!!

Love the pics Nate! My mom is a Big filterflo fan.Bought her first one in about 62 and another in 66.She has newer ge`s now but if I ever find a nice Flo I`m getting it for her! I couldn`t help but notice Marks Frigidaire range looks like mine. Enjoyed the pics, kep up the good work!

Great pics Nate

Thanks for the mini-basket demo. I always wondered just how they worked, but only new one person who had one. The machine was a 65' versatronic I believe. It was the TOL GE in coppertone-lighted panel, just beautiful. You bet I'll grab the next one I see! And I want the dryer to go with it!

Pete, sadly (at least in the states) the much loved Filter-Flo/Mini Basket type washer was discontinued in about 1995. They are now using some sort of direct drive plastic tub type thing that has been fraught with reliability problems.

You're repeating yourself Scott

Help is available LOL.
I doubt very much then they're still here but I'll check it out. Hopefully mine will continue on unperturbed for quite a few more years. I'd also be a little concerned about the dog hair going down the drain into my septic tank, probably not enough to cause a problem but why take chances, that's why no bleach, no garburator here sadly.

Thanks To Nate

Hi Nate. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job on the pictures of Mark's GE Filterflo and Mini Basket.

pet hair in septic tank

Hair is a protein, so eventually it does decompose in a septic tank. What one has to worrry about is lint from synthetic farbrics like nylon, polyester, Dacron, and such that DOESN'T decompose.

My first ones!

*SIGH*

My first washer and dryer! I LOVE the sound of the GEs of that era!

Before liquid detergents, the filter-flo pan made a great powdered detergent dispenser.

P.S. I heard that softeners wax and gum up a septic tank and that bleach is also no good.

There are liquids sold in the supermarket that are basically live "digesting" bacteria that can be flushed down the toilet to get the little boogers in the tank back to keeping the septic tank clean/functioning.

Although illegal as H@## most long-islanders stick the washing machine hose out onto the rear lawn. Amazingly bleach does not burn the grass! The sheer volume of water (esp. of a T/L) and all the suds too... harm the effectiveness of the septic tank.

Another solution is to use the old septic tank for the washer and the new one for the house!!!
