Those tulips are beautiful. My day lilies are just starting to poke up thru the snow already and hope the snow coming wont stop them. Hoping for just an April Fools joke but it looks more like its going to happen again! None of my bulbs have even thought of even coming out yet. Come on winter, go away and stay there.

I remember seeing a film on tulip bulb cultivation. Tulip cultivating machines come along and cut off the blooms in order to produce a quality bulb. It was sad to see all these beautiful flowers chopped off but I'm sure since the Dutch are so very intelligent they put the cuttings to good use.

Interesting picture.

I saw a few tulips blooming yesterday when I went walking in Spring Grove Cemetary; some in white, and some a red-purple.

I have tulips in my garden, but they haven't been blooming very well the last couple years; neither have the hyacinths. I think I need to dig them up and replant, and add some new ones. I ordered yellow tulips for the church at Easter, so will have those if I remember to pick them up.

My mom took a trip to Holland, MI at tulip time, but I've never been. Doesn't look like I'll get to go this year; maybe in a year or two.

Thanks everyone!

The blooms of the tulips are cut off after they have been sampled and tested on color, diseases etc. When a particular segment has been approved by the bulbs inspection, the heads are cutt off so the bulb doesn't waste energy anymore on the bloom, but can use all it's energy on it's own growth. By then the blooms had their best time and can't be sold anymore. The income comes from selling the bulbs for the next season.

Here's my favourite tulip, it's the Queen of Night.
