The Kenmore I restored back in May had a spin tube that was messed up when I was pulling it out. I had a whole new basket drive that I used, so, instead of disassembling the old one, I left it together and turned it in to a lamp.

It can be disassembled at any point so any of the parts could be used again, but until then, it'll be a nice piece of washer-art.

Anyone ever done anything similar?

Use Your Basket, Too

Sometime in the past decades, shelter magazines have shown a stainless steel European washer drum made into a hanging lamp. A Maytag washer tub upside down with the central hole blocked and a glass top makes a nice outdoor end table with a dramatic look at night if you place a light inside. Light coming up through the holes around the outer edge of the tub give a neat perimeter light to the top of the table while the light coming through the holes casts a nice pattern on the deck or patio.

FUNKY-people will ask what it is!One DIY scrapper magazine suggested leaving the impellor from a impellor washer laying out-guests would ask what boat it was from-you say it came from my wrecked dishwasher! We used to make lamps from some burned out transmitter tubes-now we can't do that anymore since that tube type is no longer made new.We have to save the duds for rebuilding. We are the only ones that use that tube type on the planet now-7532 vapor cooled triode. When the copper heatsink was polished-made a nice lamp base!

I am sooooooo digging that lamp! That is a cool idea. A old friend inspired the lamp we have in the picture. They had one that was fabric on a pole with the shape of a woman (2 dementional). We decided to take it a step further. It was hilarious shopping for womans clothes. Same type of idea.

I used a Kenmore tub as a hanging lamp in my laundry room. I installed a light kit and a chain on it. Painted the tub and then hooked it up.

I also took the lighted control panels from a 63 Lady Kenmore washer and a 65 Lady Kenmore washer and dryer and wired them up. I now have the three of them on top of the cabinet in my laundry room.

I will post pictures when I can locate them.
