Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

"The lodge at 12825 Ventura Blvd. in Studio City spent two years on an $8-million makeover that exudes a '60s-cool image and banishes all signs of creakiness."

Ugh on the redesign imo. Most of the Sportsmen's Lodge's charm was its creakiness.

Yeah, it's an out-of-control problem in L.A.   Any place that has established itself as an institution over a period of decades is seen as an opportunity to attract hipsters when it changes hands, and as a result pieces of greater L.A.'s colorful history are being lost forever.

I never set foot in the Sportsmen's Lodge so can't speak to this particular incident.

I ate plenty of TV dinners while I grew up.  Both my parents worked and my father is an awful cook.  I don't consider a then being poor.  It was a quick relatively balanced meal.  I still love cheap pot pies and regular Kraft macaroni and cheese!

Travis:

There's a huge difference between the TV dinners you and I grew up with as convenience foods, and the "10-for-$10" Banquet ones being sold today. The old ones were fun in their own way; the new ones are sort of a meal of last resort.

Just be sure that you look at the labels and not just the price tags when you buy those quick little delectable goodies.

Although the prices may sometimes be real appealing once you look at the labels of some of those foods and get their facts you begin to have second thoughts.

Ralph, I grew up a few miles from it. It started as an actual lodge for fishermen and other sportsmen, the redeisgn is straight out of Rodeo Dr. So I'm not sure how any decent sportsman could feel relaxed in that environment. The place was in serious need of renovation, and to be fair imo they did great jobs with the pool and other areas. But someday I hope to understand why restaurant designers believe it's possible to enjoy a nice quiet (and/or romantic) dinner, while in a room that looks like the last scene of 2001:A Space Odyssey. Relentless and blinding white and light everywhere.

Also my other half says he can't even look at it without thinking of In-N-Out Burger.

'Sportsmen' are particulary sporty about what they pay for a snack in fashionable LA where style is everything.

In 1964 (college) I refilled Swanson foil plates with homemade fried chicken, peas and corn and froze them for later use. Tradition continues today, I make 10 servings of spaghetti sauce, eat one and freeze the other 9. Fresh pasta, always.

Geez, I may go thaw one for tomorrow. Naw, I have a coupon for a free Whataburger.
