I was at an estate sale this weekend. The gentlemen must have been big into tv radio repair, since there was a large amount of test equipment for the old tube. Also there were a bunch of tubes and some repair manuals and schematics. Well anyways I was a little late on the tubes (It started at 8am and I arrived there at 8 to stand in line behind a large group of people. When I entered in, there was a guy already buying all the tubes that were there.) Anyways I got the schematics and some of the repair manuals. And then there was this vintage TV made by A.M.C. I have never heard of that brand of tv. They wanted $5. for it, so I bought it. Its kind of dirty, and not sure if it works. Here are the pics of it.

Allied Merchandising

This thread (minus the obligatory AMC cars :-) ) will give you more info on that brand, which has nothing to do with American Motors.

U.S.

can tell by the screw heads and other little details that it is U.S. made-probably
in the early '60s,might be a "transformerless"T.V.with series string tubes and
selenium or silicon rectfier voltage doubler circuit for the main DC.

Ooh- I try to grab rolls of wire like those next to your TV. I can usually grab a good sized spool- maybe 75-100', for about $10 at the flea market.

I'm sure if there were any tube testers there, they sold quickly. They get good money!

Good luck with the TV!

Chuck: The roll of wire is my partner's. He is/was an electrician and wired the shed/shop where the picture was taken. Just left over wiring, that I'm sure we will use somewhere. The tube tester they had they wanted over $300 for it. Way overpriced, but since I have 3 or 4 I didn't need anymore. Maybe this weekend I'll try and clean the tv up and check out the inside.

I thought the pic may have been taken at the sale- just generally mentioning it. I have about 200' right now, and will probably use only about 1/2 of it when we re-do the downstairs shop into an office!

They must have looked up the tester before pricing it. Very hard to find sales where they don't anymore!

Justin,
I love the look of that set. We had a few A.M.C. appliances growing up - a waffle iron, fryer/cooker and a radio, too. This brand of small appliances was carried by J.L. Hudson's here in Detroit - probably the best local department store in town. I know that A.M.C. was carried at a number of department stores in the U.S. It was sort of the "house brand" for stores who didn't have agreements with manufacturers to produce their own labled products - like Sears, Montgomery Ward and J.C. Penney. While those mid-range stores sold tons of appliances, better stores like Hudson's sold them, but not in mass quantity.

Anyway, very cool set!! Great find!

Interesting AMC should be mentioned.

an ad for an AMC Color TV set recently surfaced, if any of these sets where ever made let alone sold, it would rewrite american color TV history as we know it(for NTSC sets) because this set WOULD have been the first color set offered to the public.

The link to the ad on the Early Television Museum website is attached.
