Twin tub detergent

Hi,

Just after some advice.

I've always used twin tub washers. Currently have a superbrite model. Recently I've been really disappointed with the results from the persil handwash and twin tub powder. I'm not sure if the ingredients have changed but the last lot I have bought has just not got the stains out

There really isn't much variety for twin tub powder here in the UK so wanted some expert advice on what is best to use. I've always been under the impression that automatic washing powder is difficult to rinse in a twin tub machine, so not worth trying....

Is this correct? Is there anything else that I can try?

Any advice will be greatly recieved, I don't have space for an automatic & launderettes are so expensive.

Am across the pond from you, but have had great results using normal automatic detergent in my Hoover TT. Quite fancy it because less suds and easier rinsing.

Persil Handwash Powder

Hmmm... and it's no wonder that you're seeing awful results... it would appear that Unilever/Lever Bros have dumbed down that detergent! All bulking agents, brighteners and colourants.

Apparently it has only one enzyme 'subtilisin' (protease) - and no oxygen bleach whatsoever, and no TAED bleach activator either.

P&G's Daz isn't much better. The 'Daz Handwash/Twin Tub Whites & Colours' has oxygen bleach - but no TAED bleach activator.

The only Daz which has oxygen bleach and TAED, and four enzymes, seems to be 'Daz Ultra Whites' - and it appears to have less zeolite content than it did before - and much less than the likes of Aldi's 'Almat' Powder.

Daz Ultra Whites is only available from certain shops though. Asda seems to be the only stockist (at least in my area).

Alternatively, you could try a decent performing detergent like Lidl's 'Formil' Powder (six enzymes).

I should also say, that Lidl's 'Formil' Powder is quite a sudsy detergent in my experience (in automatic front loaders), so you might get satisfying results in your twin tub.

I do know from experience, that Ariel powder consistently refused to shift dried blood stains from a pillow slip - even washed regularly weekly, over several months. 'Formil' shifted them within a two to three week period.

It's the one in the green box. The others (purple box, blue box, etc) are lesser formulations.
