Seeing as the storage unit I booked for while I am between houses had a fair bit of spare space - it only seemed sensible to maximise cost effectiveness and make sure it is filled as much as possible. So I have treated myself to two more machines. The only problem is that I've not had time to play with them.

First up is a 18680 that I managed to obtain for 99p. I'm quite pleased as I already had the Service manual so I am now able to use it - well that's my excuse. I'm told its in working order but it is a bit tatty as you can see from the rather blurry pictures I took of it in the storage unit

Can't wait to try this out when I'm next reunited. Couldn't find a plug in the storage unit to give it a whirl otherwise I would

The other machine adds to my 2 other top loaders. However this one is new in the box! I thought I'd missed out on this but in a stroke of luck I had a call at the eleventh hour!

The dilemma with this is do you use it or keep it in its new condition? I'm thinking the former as you have to enjoy these things

I am so happy for you Steve! Two great machines and how rare is it get a BNIB top loader! Use it I say, because you would take good care of it so what's to lose. I have the user manual for the 18680. Just drop me an email (it should be on my profile) and I will send it to you tomorrow as it is already scanned but needs to be dug out (it's on one of my USB keys somewhere).

James.

New in box?

New in box?!

Staggering. Who the hell stockpiles a washing machine for the best part of 30 years?

I suppose the question is: will you get a complimentary E3 box of Persil Automatic or Persil high-suds soap powder, and will there be a usable small bottle of Comfort with it?

Space - The Final Frontier...

Well thats what its for Steve, fill it up, with goodies of course!! great hotpoint finds and a NIB FilterFlow SpiraClean Top Loader - doesnt get any better than that unless its a Selectronic by you know who!!)

Oh yes the little turquoise Comfort, wait till you get your new place Steve, housewarming party and unveil it!!

What excellent finds Steve!

Whats the story behind them both? Ebay finds, or local?

A quick but controlled going over with off white car paint and your 18680 will look mint. Barring the goings on above the powder drawer, it looks great anyway. Minor blemish, that's all.
Quite a late 18-series machine, dating from March 1983.

The toploader - WOW! Absolutely superb! Truth be told, I don't think I would use it, but thats just me (after all the years, I wouldn't want to extract it from its box - but then that's no fun).
Really interested to hear the background behind this expensive machine staying unused.
Below is a piccy of my 96702, with Alex (SuperElectronic) and Rob both freezing in a January chill - a fair few years ago now.
Hopefully circumstances will enable me to plug and play with more of my/our machines soon.

Congratulations on two more classics, Steve!
Paul

I'll Open The Box Michael

~Steve I understand BUT these toploaders are such great machines to use, all the fun of a twin tub but none of the work :-)......brilliant wash action..........clean really well.......pity I got rid of mine........in my opinion this range of toploaders were Hotpoints best machines (ducks to avoid flying debris).

As for the others they are great too I do like them aswell Nurse Lee has the same 1000 spin model so I had better be careful :-)

Proper job on finding them..............

Hotpoint 95622

Excellent, the Hotpoint 18680, with the bronze control panel as well, great find and a very pleasing machine.
Just check the outer drum lip where the door seal joins it can take a battering and rust.

Age

Al and Austin there a few of us on here that old enough to remember such things :-)......even though some are keeping quiet......these youngsters don't know what they are missing :-)

Yes a classic machine boxed.............well here is proof it does happen, didn't Jon up in brum have a hotpoint twinny in a box? I think he got it as an award from Kays for being there agent of the year

Gary your right ...

John does in deed have one and a couple of Hoovermatics too I believe :o)

I always have and most likely will always be in the wrong place at the wrong time as far as some thing like this lovely machine in a box goes I seem to get4 everything when its bust and in need of tlc and repair...lol still its fun to get these oldies up and running I have as it happens just got my Hotpoint 9414 on a boil as we speak its been a long time as it needed a new pump on the wash tub but all done now and the smell of Persil suds is a treat.
