I think the Kenmores are 1963 or 1964 models. Isn't that the same control panel of the turquoise set Robert sold via ebay a while back?

The Maytags are 1970's models,as the dryer has the larger door.

They are both very nice vintage machines. Coppertone is not my favorite either. However when finding vintage machines that are forty plus years old in this sort of original condition,one must make an exception. Nice catch!! (:
 
IIRC the Kenmores are 1963. Look on the model no. The first two digits after the 110 is the year.
 
I just confirmed they are 1963 by going to Sears website. They are probably model 1106305801 or close to it.
 
'63 LK

This is the washer that replaced a '55 frog-eyed KM that was in our house when we moved in. The '55 was repaired and used for a few years, after whichit was replaced by the '63 LK and given to a friend where it soldiered on for quite a few more years. The "63 was replaced by a '78 LK that we still have but is out of service at the moment.
 
Speaking of brown appliances, do you want ugly?

Let me set the stage. Parents bought a house in '73 that was built in '55. No dryer no DW, no A/C inadeuate hot water, but I digress.

1-Brown HARDWICK Brand 30" gas range with wasitihigh broier and SS door- TOL in its day which was late 60's early 70's.

2- Brown NORGE bottom-mount frezer refrigerator.

3- Light wood pine kitchen cabinets with copper hardware. "Country look"

4- red flocked wallpaper(vevety fleur-de lis pattern.

5- READY for this? Bull's eyes pattern (but square)
1 foot square (30 cm)ORANGE tile in center, 1 inch (2.5 cm) black trim around that. Then a row of WHITE tiles surrounding that one. More black trim. Then a row of ORANGE tiles surrounding that one. REPEAT to perimeter walls of kitchen.

6- Mom had a YELLOW wall-phone put in in anticipation of the pending color changes.

7- IIRC the dining set had RED pleather chairs and backs.

OMG-
I was SO relieved when the floor and walls became beige,and the dining set became brown pleather. I am breaking out in hives just THINKING about it.

Two beautiful 50's stoves were tossed out.
One was ustairs int he rental apt, 40 inches wide (100 cm) and the other was in the basement in the laundry room- 20 inches wide (50 cm). The space for the stove in the above (BOZO the clown's) main kitchen was originally 36 inches wide (45 cm).

Coppertone is icky, and Avocado only works if everything down to your drawer-pulls are avocado as well.

And--I'll come right out and say it--if I found a 1-18 in that poppy-magma-hell color, I'd...I'd...

...have been happy with a plastic-tub GE! Feh!!

tag dryer

Hey rune, Is that a "Halo of heat" dryer? I have a set of HG
tags with the the little power light above the timer dials
(white plastic faces, no jewelry) I think mine were bought new in 1972; the dryer is still HoH. I would have any machine of that era colors if it came my way with Avocado being preferred to Coppertone, then HG. Yours look very nice.
Any dispensers under the hood of that Kenmore?
 
Nate, I'd suggest you rescue said ugly poppy red Frigidaire and see if anyone else in the club wants it. Many here do like the poppy red cuz it's rare.

Those LK are BEEEEEUUUUUTTTTIIIFFFUUUULLLL!!!! Thats the exact set and color our neighbors had when I was growing up. He was the store manager for the local Sears and everything they had was Sears "Best" The always drove a Caddy and when they got a new one, he wouldn't drive it until it had Sears tires on it. We moved away in 1977 and went back to visit in 1995. They STILL had the 76 Eldorado in the garage, with Sears tires on it, but sadly, the washer/dryer were gone. If those EVER need a home.... put me on the top of the list!!!
 
I don't know if guys and gals realize this about this beautiful Coppertone set, but 1963 is the very first year that Kenmore introduced coppertone so its a very rare find.

Frigidaire first introduced the coppertone color (called shaded copper) in 1959. There were two WCI-59 washers on the Aberdeen farm in coppertone.

You are not alone. I grew up with a basic 1965 coppertone Norge refrigerator and stove and a 1968 bottom of the line coppertone Hotpoint dishwasher and I ALWAYS thought it was the ugliest color I had ever seen. They were replaced in 1981 with very basic harvest gold Kelvinator appliances whose lifespan was much shorter than their Norge predecessors. I haven't lived in that house since '80, but Mom finally wised up and the last time bought white top-of-the-line Whirlpools.

You folks have so much more knowledge than I on these LK's. I find it fascinating reading. I grew up in a Maytag household, so these are foreign appliances!

The LK washer leaks water & oil so she bought a nice used 6 month old Kenmore pair from us.

Here's a shot into the tub. I haven't done any cleaning to it.

Can you do a close-up shot of the timer and color cycle codes on the front panel? I love those color-keyed 60's LK's!

Sounds like a agitator shaft seal, not a hard job. Gearcase will have to be emptied and fresh oil put in, probably contaminated by water
 
63 LK

I remember my mom's Kenmore it was a step or two down from the Lady Kenmore, What I need to know is did Kenmore of that same year 63 have a model 700, because this is what I remember which looked alot like the Lady Kenmore but not with all the buttons? It had a few for water temp. and the slide control for the water level. Can anyone help me on this as I would like to know. We had this washer for about 8yrs. and was a pretty good machine. Thanks for the try but not the machine my mom had when I was growing up. One thing about the super roto-swirls is that they didn't make alot of suds on top and my mom also kind of over loaded it too I suppose. But my Grand Ma's Kenmore with the fat roto-swirl seemed to make alot of suds and liked it alot more than ours. Our 700 model might have been a 64 model but not sure. Some where in that time area though it only lasted until 1971. But it did have some hard use. thanks again Fixerman. Dan

This is the kenmore set we had when I was growing up. I remember the day they delivered it (I was about 4 years old)It was a great set. It came with us for 3 moves, was stored for a year, was in a flooded basement and still was a workhorse for many years. What i remember about them is with all the cycles the washer had we only used button B (warm wash 12 min. warm rinse) 99% of the time, and the dryer only had one heat setting-odd with all the settings on the washer
 
Jeb, that is funny about using only the cotton/linens colored cycle 99% of the time. My mom used a similar setting much of the time on our 1964 push-button Norge. Although she did use the delicate cycle too. As for the dryer having one temperature, it actually didn't It had "Soft Heat" feature. That is, the temperature started out on high and declined to lower temperatures as the load dried. Wish dryers still had this today. Although I think there is one that does, I just can't remember right now. As for me, I but the featuer set I know I"m gonna use. I use all 6 cycles on my dishwasher. If I had a front loader, I'd use all the cycle on it too. I believe in lots of sorting LOL. (Unlike my mom)

Found the same Kenmore my mom had on a members site its on the thread Speed Queen and up at the top it says go to Ringtail 59's site then click on the first pic. and go to photo #18 and that is the machine that my mom had when I was growing up in New York state and then in 67 we moved it to calif. The only difference is that ours was white and it had the scrubber cap with the detergent cup on top of it. Thanks. Dan

I am so happy to know that these classics are still around!

Funny that LK Combination for 1963 used almost the exact same control panel. Do you have the laundry soap cup (plastic) that fits over the scrubber?

Remember this set very well, our neighbor had the model under this set that I think was a 70 or 700? It's control panel almost looked the same but it had only two turning control knobs in a lighted back drop of ovals, and of course a lighted filter indicator, did it ever go out???
