The first ad is of the "3 Generations" series. This ad continues the sexist practice of referring to married women by their husband's name. While Mrs. Leon Martin has a brand new automatic, her mother and we assume grandmother are still using a wringer which Maytag calls "conventional." The Dutch Oven Gas Range is now upgraded with a window.
The 2nd ad from 1961 is strange. It's not clear whether Maytag provided Sister Philomena with the "wringer-type powered with a gasoline engine" or the classmates bought one and had it shipped to the "South American jungle." I also suspect that even for the time, the "clearing near Cochabamba, Bolivia" wasn't as remote a jungle as is described. But no Maytag automatics for the sister.
