I check my bank account and credit cards almost everyday... I'm very careful when it comes to what I purchase and use a seperate credit card that I use to make online purchases... I use Citizens bank and was going over my recent purchases to make sure that what I have written down in my check book is 100% accurate... Well there where about a dozen items that I didn't recognize, and the phone system just states the amount, not where it was purchased...

When I got home from work, I logged onto the online site, and needless to say hundreds of dollars in small purchases was withdrawn from my account, all online purchases from all over the country... California, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and so on... Some are as little as $1 while others are over $100... I contacted the bank, and they canceled my debit card... I have to sign an affidavit that I did not make the purchases, then then the bank will investigate.

The bank is going to issue a temporary credit, pending the results of the investigation, but this is a pita! Now I don't have a debit card, which I use since I hate carrying cash, I'm low on checks, and I hate using my American Express, unless I absolutely have to (which I'm gonna have to now...)

Some people just SUCK...

End rant...

I once had a credit card statement along with other things stolen from my mailbox. Thank goodness the CC company called asking about the suspicious activity and I wasn't liable for any of it. But I never ever hand over my debit card to anyone. I use it constantly, but only if I can swipe it myself. You can't trust anyone anymore. Plus I only get online statements now, nothing in the mail anymore.

Re pip off!!!!!!!!

Hello
I have a storey much the same but I wrote a check for $ 7.70 for a purchase from E Bay and put it out in the mail box with out a thought in my new home I just moved to hear in Palm Springs.
well the day the bank sent me the statemunt I started to check the checks payed out and the ck # was right but the check had been completely changed to a different amount. It was altered to $ 170.00!!!! it was a very bad forgery but had all the ckeck info so the bank never checked it.the person who did this took the check to a branch of my bank in Elsungundo LA.
well this caused me the same inconvience as you . I had to close the account and open a new one. the bank did leave the old one open for two weeks to see if their would be any more use of it and their was and the bank caught it this time.
well I told my bank that they should have caught it the first time around!! I did get my money back in about a week but just the inconvience of the whole thing was a pain in the but!
so do not feel bad it happened to me and I caught it before it got out of hand. it just proves we can not trust any one in this day and age espically my mail box out side my home!! now all mail goes to post office and I have a locking mail box out front.
I am most distrusting now than I used to be!
cheer up you will get the money back it is a case of fraud and the bank always makes good.

Heres what i can tell you about citizens bank:
When you call them over the phone you either call Asheville NC, Somewhere in Tn or in Tewksburry Ma.. 90% of citizens bank calls go to asheville nc, through Clientlogic, Inc. I trained to work with Citizens Bank for several months, but left the company due to the fact they where unwilling to work with my health issues last year. It paid really good though. But they have accsess to soooo much of your info its unreal. I can look and tell you both devit card numbers, your pin, anything you need to know. They have had several instances of customer service reps over the phone steal random debit cards and use them all over the place.. Check and see if any where from NC.. How they caught two of the creeps: They orderd PIZZA and had it Delivered to there address.. Stupid..
I am not overly fond of Citizens Bank any way for other reasons, i just feel there too lax with things.

I have heard

Debit Cards are the easiest thing to hack and that the Russians have a system for hacking them which won't work for Credit Cards. CC are more secure so in light of that I only use my CC's now I never use my DB card anymore.

I am sorry to hear you are going thru this it sucks the big one to get straightend out.
Good luck!
