Addiction to pharmacuticals is very common
I was talking to my wife over dinner about this woman. She's really in a sad state. Her husband (who is 70) is an engineer for a major oil company. He's so into his job, he forgets he's married to this woman.
He gets up at 4:30am, leaves for work at 5:00am, comes home at 7:00pm and then eats dinner and is in bed by 7:45pm. repeat daily M-F. So what we have is a case of a poor woman whose husband is so into his job, he doesn't realize he's married. She's involved with a lot of local society type ladies and keeps herself busy.
I got involved with her and her appliances because she asked my wife "Maybe your husband could come over and look at this, my husband is always too busy to help me with anything."
I remember back in the 60's a lot of general practitioners had their housewives on Valium to keep them happy and in a lot of cases these women ended up becoming addicted to it. Wasn't Xanax supposed to be the replacement for Valium? Karen once asked her about this and she said if she doesn't take the Xanax she starts to worry about things and then her BP goes up. So the Xanax is really a blood pressure pill. (according to her). I imagine if her doctor reduced her dosage she would probably throw a fit! I think she's in denial about the use of this drug.
As for this woman herself, she basically is very nice and very interesting to talk to. But all this strange behavior. Come on now, who would mail back just ONE PILL? To me that's strange behavior. Now my sister is the queen of strange behavior and even she wouldn't do that!
We agreed that we should just smile nicely and say hello and goodbye and not get any more involved with this woman. [this post was last edited: 12/7/2012-04:39]
