For my friends here. Totally off topic of appliances, but I am so blown away by this wanted to share. You will not believe this.

As some of you may know, I live in Chino, California. We moved here 1.5 years ago from Chino Hills, next town over, where we lived for 10 years.

Chino Hills is a "bedroom community", that is, no industry, some commerical enterprises, warehousing, distribution sites, but 90% homes from town houses to 4000 square foot plus homes. It is a beautiful area, amongst some low hills and flanked by bigger hills on its southern and eastern edges. Chino is next to it and was once a total agri community now turning into more homes and business.

When we lived there, it was in a 1500 sq foot home in a neighborhood built in 1965. Very nice and tree lined. When we first moved there, of course, we would cruise all around and explore.

If you took side streets about away from my house, you ended up dead ending into a light foresty area of a few farmhouse type acreage and stable type locations. Taking a right from a dead end gave you a Y in the road. This Y was about 1.5 to 2 miles from my house.

The left hand of the Y led you down a small road to a locked gate. The right hand of the road led you to a sign that said "GenCorp Aerojet" Chino Hills Facility. When we first checked this out I remember you could drive a little further and arrive at an abandoned, large building, then a fence where you could go no further. When I went up there a few months later, the fence had moved to where the sign was, and I never drove to the building again.

Once I was able to take the left hand turn of the Y, and was shocked to find that the gate was open, so I drove in. There was what appeared to be a once real rode, complete with double yellow line, but not kept up, IE, it was almost a single land in width because each side of the road had alot of the asphalt crumbling away.

Anyways, this road twisted and turned up the canyon (this was about 9 years ago) and I don't remember looking down into the valley at this point, I was too curious where this was going to lead, and at the same time, was afraid I would be caught by the cops for going onto a closed off road. In the distance, I could see what appeared to be either a fire station or some other building with what might have been a cop car, so I turned around and went back.

The reason I was so amazed at this street, is that it would connect the back of Chino Hills to Brea, a sorely needed connection because to go otherwise you have to take a busy freeway, a single busy street, or an expressway that goes out of your way. The fact that this "back door" road existed that could cut easily 1/2 hour to an hour off a commuter's travel was astounding me. It had a faded double yellow line on it! What was the deal. Consulting new maps indicated it was a "fire road". Hmmmm.

Anyways, I was always curious about that Aerojet facility. What was it doing in that canyon. What did it do? I was shocked beyond belief when I read this:

They made weapons there. Tested gas. Had radioactive waste. Freaking insane, and I lived a few miles away.

Unbelievable, they decided to clean it up. California has very strict laws about cleaning up sites of any type, even automotive, when you leave. The attached article indicates that some believe some toxic waste was moved at night and could have caused health problems. Neither myself or my family Thank God seemed to have been affected, or no one I know. Cancer levels are equivalent there. It is just the idea. Very few people know this.

Two astonishing things then happened. I Google Earthed this site, and am attaching some not very well aligning shots of this facility. You can grab the location markers off the pics and go there yourself.

What I thought was one building (the one that I saw) was 800 acres. I believe they closed the public road that ran above it for security reasons. Fire road my...

Take a look at the photo. I lived about 1.5 miles from the houses you see at the top right of the series of pictures. What is with the white stuff? Chemicals they applied to neutralize toxins? Toxins themselves? Look at the size of this site compared to the houses ringing it.

The pictures I include don't show the whole site. It does not show up on any map. It was just there. Huge and guarded, and just so positioned that you would never "go by" it. One road did, and it closed.

So now comes the most unbelievable part of all. For fun, I go back there today. I take the right fork in the road, and right about where the old Aerojet sign was is a guardhouse, and a guy comes out to me. I advise him I am just turning around. There are trucks coming in an out of that facility now. Then there is a sign, and it shocked me. It said something like "Future Sight of Whispering Hills Golf Course and Luxury Homes".

I decided to press my luck. I went back to the Y and took the left fork. I drove up the road, and the gate was open, just like 9 years ago. I drove up the road, but this time, I looked down into that valley as I ascended up the canyon.

My friends, those pictures that I posted of this site would be unrecognizable. There are huge homes being constructed, some almost done. I mean 4000-6000 square foot homes, mansions, with columns. A huge golf course. Twisting new roads. All guarded--I would imagine quite a few of those homes have gold plated fixtures, expensive tiles, etc. There were all sorts of trucks down there. I am going, how can this be? How can this just be wiped over?

As a final twist of irony, as I drive back through my old neighborhood, some huge signs have been erected throughout Chino Hills. They state "No, 1000 times NO!" then in smaller letters "All Fireworks are Illegal. Minimum fine for possession or use of any fireworks is $1000"

You see, fireworks are dangerous in Chino Hills, just in case you didn't know.
