Some of you may have seen that I offered this set to Stephanie. Now that she's found an 806 pair, I am offering this set to someone else.

This set came to me from Iowa. I am offering them to another member for FREE. I really would prefer both the washer/dryer go away at the same time. If you have interest in one or both. let me know.

I am not as nice as Brian, so no delivery is available.

Please look at the pictures. The tops are in pretty nice shape. The cabinets need at least a good polishing. The dryer cabinet has some rust. The chrome has some pitting.

If no one steps up, they'll likely get parted and confined to a small cardboard box.

If someone wants to bring me that slant front Westinghouse in Boston, I would happily accept!

i hope.....

someone will take you up on your kind & generous offer and give these babies another chance at a 2nd life.

keeping my fingers crossed that these will go to someone that will be able to restore them and get them up & running real soon!!!

;o)

I second that thought Christina. Would hate to see them scrapped. If I were closer Id be interested for sure but Im afraid shipping from MO to NY would be pretty high.

Hey Ken, you never know until you look into it!

I heard about a woman "Jackie" that a few have used, not sure if her fees, but I can ask and get her contact info!

Now you're putting thoughts in my head! I believe you're referring to Jackie Dempere based in Washington state? Ive seen her mentioned here so I did a search and found her # which is 206-433-8539. I just might give her a call to satisfy my curiosity as to shipping.

BTW...Im no Maytag expert. What vintage are these?

They're early to mid-60s models, Ken.

BTW that dryer looks like a gas one - just in case you don't have a gas line in the laundry and need to install one soon...

Yeah. I did realize the dryer is gas. And Im not set up for gas so its the same situation for me as it was for Stephanie when Travis first offered them to her.

conversion

Combo52 (JohnL) said you can convert the unit to electric; as long as you aren't welding(I have done welding once)and aren't messing with that - why not consider converting it to electric? Maybe other members would have some idea on that. ?

So I got in touch with Jackie by phone. She didnt give me any indication of cost while talking with her. She asked that I email her with the details and she would get back to me. She indicated that she is coming East in June and may have room for them. She was surprised to hear that info concerning her moving service are posted here. What vintage are these?

Actually these are either 1958, but most likely 1959 vintage. The clues are the square blocky logo on the front panel - 1959 was the last year. Also the control panel glass. These have the horizontal stripes and red Maytag script logo, 1959 was also the last year for this.

For 1960 they went to a round body colored "M" script logo on the front panel. Also the Maytag script on the control panel glass changed to gold as well as the addition of gold dots on the glass.

Kevin

P.S. This was my very first post through my phone!

Converting a gas dryer...

Phil, Ken - This can be done and I've got proof - a 1965 Turquoise Lady K dryer that was 'electrified' by John and Jeff a bit over a year ago.

Kevin - thanks for the information about the logos!  I never noticed the differences until now.

Would someone measure their Maytag set and post the dimensions?  I can't find a tape measure to provide Ken with them.

Thanks

The dryer is 30 inches wide;  I think the washer is 27 (I'm in Montreal where no vintage appliances are allowed... )  I'll double-check when I get down to Ogden tomorrow.

Actually the washer is 25.5" wide, the dryer is 31" wide.   Both are 27" deep and approx 43.5" tall.

I'm not sure about the weight.  Probably 250 for the washer and 200 for the dryer???
