Unusual Kenmore Dishwasher

Can anybody tell me anything about this dishwasher? It's near me and I'm considering buying it. For one thing, is this one of those Kenmore/Whirlpools where the silverware basket hangs on the inner door? The picture shows it on the bottom rack but it doesn't look right and I've seen sellers do that before.

Whirlpool built for sure. Back then most Kenmore dishwashers where D&M built machines. Only the top models where Whirlpool built.

There is a shallow utensil rack that hangs on the front of the upper rack, it's in the lower rack on the right side in the pics.  In the WP built Kenmore machines, the silverware rack is in the lower rack, not on the door.  That was a WP exclusive.   The KM version of the power clean had the lower rack bumped out into the door space that would hold the silverware basket in the WP.  This will be an outstanding dishwasher, hope you can nab it, Ken.

Great Dishwasher

These were built from about 1987-1989, about the only bad thing about it was it does NOT have the silver-ware basket mounted on the inner door.

 

This is the DW that we are installing in the Museum Kitchen for the Great International Wash-In in August.

The is certainly is a unique machine, Ive never seen anything like it control panel wise. This is something that belongs in a collector's hands.

Jon, would you know if the tub material is metal or plastic?

That's an ULTRA-WASH!!!....

probably one of the best cleaning, throw anything at it you can and it will tackle it wash systems....yet I still cannot figure out how that chamber works...

you will love how steam emerges from that upper left port during cycles...

the start of a series that would erase a whole chocolate frosted cake in one regular cycle....guaranteed!.......I know, I tried it!

one slight drawback for some, is this will have the center tower in the lower rack to feed the upper wash arms, not really an issue, but allows for the upper rack to adjust for tall glasses and such....

I have the convertible version, bought brand new in 1988, and still going strong....

Great Dishwasher

The tub is porclean over steel and the inner door panel is molded plastic, an excellent combination.

 

The center tower is not much of a problem, unlike the the center towers in GE, MTRR, some WCI and several other DWs it is very slim and does not move so you can even have items wedged against it and not interfere with its operation. This upper rack wash system will out wash any top rack in any DW ever, even tall glasses in the corners of the top rack get clean, unlike other overall excellent DWs like early 80s GEs, MTRR, and Kitchen DWs.

 

I hate to use the term, but if I was close this DW would be gone, but I already have one, John L.

the Whirlpool version if this dishwasher had a hidden pop out console with touch controls.

WP DWs With Tilt-Out Controls

Came out in 1980, so they are almost 10 years older than this DW and did not have the Power-Clean System yet.
