Unusual Lint Filter

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

They were used on the last GM 1-18 series. They require a different subtop. I have a machine that's supposed to have this style filter but it's missing (and it's also missing the locking tab for it).

1-18 Washer Lint Filters

Yes this is the later style lint filter for a 1-18 washer. I actually like the bed of nails filter better and it cleans quite easily if you don't get a mineral build up on it from using too little detergent. All I do to clean it is slap it down in my Durastone [ plastic ] laundry tub.

Wasn't there a kit from GM Frigidaire to retrofit the sub-top of the bed-of-nails filter mounts to the newer basket style?

I changed the sub-top on my 1979 1-18 to the bed-of-nails filter as I think it's a slightly better filter, it certainly collects lint a little longer than the basket type which clogs quickly and is then useless.   That said, I usually leave the b-o-n filter on the shelf and skip the filtering gimmicks altogether.

Ah, zo

Thank you everybody. I have the bed of nails filter and I guess I'll stick with that one because I can, in fact, leave it in the machine until it is practically hemorrhaging lint and then take it upstairs to bang it on something soft and use a brush to get the leavings out.

The Frigidaire 1-18 has been a very good daily driver and will continue to be so until I can find the right circuit board for my LG 2432 (the 2nd best washing machine I've ever used).
