I found this ad in the August 1952 BH&G issue.  It's  included in an article about new equipment for the home and shows a new range (unknown brand) with a pull-out aluminum griddle in the top of the right oven.  Claims it's great breakfast meals and uses the "Broil" setting for the oven.  I have to assume this is an electric range.

Has anyone seen one of these or know which range featured this griddle.  Looking back from 2018 this seems a rarity so one has to assume it didn't work well or didn't prove popular.

YES!

This is the Philco Jiffy Griddle, the broiler element pulls out on a slide mechanism, the connections for this are really a wild bit of engineering, there are brass bars that are flexible that roll into channels on the back of the range, when you pull the element out , the griddle sets on top of the coils, under the coils are plates of glass that let the radiant heat thru when broiling, there are 2 heat settings on most of these,,a lot of wasted heat in my book...LOL
