Hey guys -

This one needs to go ASAP - FREE. If I don't get someone to commit to this in the next week I'll throw it on CL. Located in Waterloo, IA.

Mid 80's Whirlpool BD. Pretty good shape. My folks were using this for almost 2 years - they didn't have any issues with it. Large Capacity.

Shoot me an email: [email protected]

Thanks!

Ben

I had that exact same model. I can't remember no if it was an 85 or 86 (I bought it new in 86 but it could have been sitting around). It was the BEST washer I ever owned. The gentle cycle was very easy on clothes. The super wash was great on large wash loads. I miss that machine.

Exact match to the dryer we had. I saw this model on the showroom floor of a small retailer who had it for sale for more than two years. It was not until September of 1988 that somebody bought it. If we were ready for a new washer I would have snatched it up.

Have a good one,
James

I don't need it, but THANKS for the pics. That's the same model we had in the 1980s! I always thought SUPER SURGILATOR (sp?) was the coolest name. I see no fab dispenser, just like ours...had to use Downy ball. If I remember correctly, it was a "hat" type dispenser and was HUGE for the models that had a fab dispenser.

Jim, I'm glad this machine is being said. It looks really nice! Loved the snow white tub with that big winged Surgilator... that things is the god of all agitators!

Gernerous to a fault, even when it's not Christmas.

You're amazing.

Listen, Buddy, I've only seen the Super Surge in action once, a long time age, washing a load of towels, and they seemed to be sloshing back and forth the way they would in one of the earlier Norge's. How would you describe the turnover/water currents produced by these bottom winged creatures? When you get a moment. Thanks,

Mike

That's a beautiful shot,

with some, serious looking, let's-get-down-to-business equipment.

And the big load moves around freely? Wonder if there is a YouTube featuring this bottom winged beast.

Maybe someone already answered this...the 'wing things' are for the handwash water level setting...the water only comes up just barely to the top of those things...so you can gently wash a sweater or gloves without thrashing them around. I just had one of these earlier this year and it had the manual so that is the only way i knew that...sad story following, details not necessary. Why am I up so late talking about agitators again? lol

"Why am I up so late talking about agitators again? lol

Because it's fun and I'm glad you stayed up. That agitator works just fine in the great big tub without the wings. I have one, so I always wondered why they added the wings. Didn't know Whirlpool had offered handwash water level. Thank you for explaining. You learn something new every day at Aworg.

I had a Whirlpool with the same agitator, and it had some fierce agitation action. It could handle large loads with ease. I wish I still had it.

Agitator wings

The wings were added to the top of the agitator and to bottom to improve turn over compared to previous LAA & LFA super cap models which used the same sugerlator that the ST CAP models did.The top fins added a little visible splash and the bottom wings greatly helped turnover starting with the LHA models in 1980.

I've always wanted to see the action of the winged SS too. I wish I could have saved my mom's 76 Whirlpool she had. If this site was around back then I would have. Oil was coming up from the bottom of the agitator and one day it just stopped working. All it would do when you turned it on was hum. The only other problem it had was the hot water wouldn't shut off. I came home one day to find the garage flooded. It went through an entire cycle with the hot water still running. The machine still worked even after that for a short while. You just had to turn off the hot water faucet after it was done filling. It didn't seem to fill as high as it used to and the agitation didn't seem as fast. All things that seem to be simple to repair I found out after joining this site. I miss that machine! And in case you're wondering, it was avocado green and had the fabric softener cap.

I always refer to this model as "The one" before the DD's. NO indents on the cabinet front, one of the last BD machines.
