Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Maybe Jason or one of our research whizzes

will find a YouTube video of the SS in action. It would be a real treat to see the turnover. Seeing it only once, I now realize that the towels sloshing around were doing so because the user forgot to increase the water level after doing a lighter load, but that one image has haunted since, and thus fixed my under-estimation of its performance.

Agitator Wings

I don't believe the wings at the bottom of the agitator are for the handwash setting as this agitator was available in machines that didn't have the handwash setting.

Instead, the wings are to help direct the water currents back up towards the top of the wash basket.

Not sure how effective they actually were over the regular super surgilator agitator, but they look kida cool.

Double-Duty Action

I've read this site for several years, but never joined. This topic gave me push needed to sign up. I've got one of the last belt-drive whirlpools made (Serial number [C70125605] says 1987) that has the winged double-duty super surgilator in it. I've found it to have great wash action and decent turnover of a full load.

I made a short video showing it in action and uploaded it to youtube for anyone interested.

Whirly_Imperial - nice video! Those sloshing waves look (and sound) so familiar! :D

UPDATE: The washer is still available. Due to the storm I'll hold off another week before posting to CL/Freecycle.

Ohh yeah.....

Thats just like ours(me and Chris) Thou, isn't our daily driver right now, but still have it,(in the "catch-all" room with the rest of the collection). Really miss this sounds of it doing its thing! but it will be used again sometime.
great video!

Great vid!! I love seeing these machines in action, haven't seen one for quite awhile.

Ben, why don't you just keep this machine? I wish I was closer as I would love to have it.

Bruce - I started the year with zero machines in the garage. Now I have about 15 in there - waiting for either a tear down for a different home. :D I can't keep everything.

Even if someone here doesn't get it a family in need will.

Hey Ben,

If a family in need is destine to get this machine, how will you go about determining who gets it?

I like the of giving a machine to a family in need, but if you run an ad in craigs list for instance, every metal scrapper will pretending they "need" it.

Thanks!
Kevin

Several ways... You can go thru your church, trusted friends or even a school counselor. I had a spare dryer and asked my son's advisor at his elementary school. She actually knew a family in need. Worked out well.

How much would it cost to ship this to East Coast? MA?
I had one of these for 10 years and really miss it. I'd probably replace my frontloader with this? How much you asking for it?

Fabric Softener:

Oy. I had one of those on a Whirly and while I appreciated the convenience, I did not appreciate the lack of means with which to clean it. It snaps on in place of your original agitator cap and then won't come off easily. In addition, the design is such that you can't get into the softener chamber readily for cleaning. Big contrast to the idiot-simple Maytag design that lifts out for cleaning.

I'm not sure about other Whirlpool models, but this one has the dispenser that simply sits on top of the agitator cap. It has a note on it to "Rinse after every use". I've done just that and never had a problem with gunge or slime.

Bruce that's so cool and amazing

I ask Jason to find an SS video, and YOU find JASON'S flick. Wonderful ! The turnover sure is impressive.

Whirly, welcome to the club, and thanks for the video. You'll fit right in here, marvelously. You do what they call a Bobload-- a really full tub of clothes or dishes, named in honor of our famous member Bob who invented seeing how much you could max out a load and still achieve effective cleaning.

Understand, now why you all love the winged beauty.
