On the advice of lots of members here, I ordered a five lb. jar of citric acid from vitamin.com. All told, about $30. There may be cheaper sources but I couldn't find any with Google. Before my shipment arrived, I discovered that the coffee maker cleaner I use---Perfect Brew---is also citric acid. Three small single-use packets for FIVE DOLLARS. There can't be more than 30 ml/2 tbsp. of citric acid in each packet, so the big ass jar of citric acid is a bargain even if I only use it on the coffee maker.

Used half cup of it in my Frigidaire 2140 on Heavy cycle/hot temperature and it came out shining. Am now using it in the Bosch dishwasher, 1/4 cup: filled the detergent dispenser with it and tossed the rest into the machine so it'll have a citric acid initial rinse. Will report how it turns out.

You can never have too many limes...

...that's what the Mai Tai and "plain" lime daiquiri were invented for! Find some Prichard's rum if you can to use in both... product of Tennessee and absolutely wonderful.

Whoops, bit of topic drift there.

Back *on* topic, I actually use LemiShine (basically citric acid) in every cycle on my DW in order to keep our amazingly hard water in check. It keeps the stainless shiny and glasses clear which I've never been able to do with any DW tab/powder & rinse aid alone.

You Want To Be Careful With Citric

Or any sort of acid, especially when it comes to certian washer and dishwasher tubs.

Older porcelain tubs were treated to resist alkaline substances, (such as washing soda, a common component of both washing and automatic dishwashing powders), but not acids. Indeed acids will eat away at the protective finish and leave the metal beneath an easy target for rust.
