Westinghouse Washing Machine

Oh yes, am too well aquainted with those Westinghouse laundry appliances.

Much as one loves washers and things laundry today, did not always feel that way and deeply disliked being stuck indoors at Grandmama's cleaning, vacuuming, polishing and doing the wash. I mean what was the point of going "away"? If one wanted to do chores could have just stayed at home! *LOL*

Anyway, when Grandmama had her kithen redone, and the first time I saw the pair thought it was rather fast as Grandmother was not one to spend money freely, nor go for anything "high tech". Her new fridge and range and vent hood, were Harvest Gold as well, and the oven even had a self cleaning function.

Had never seen a front loading washing machine before as my home like everyone else one knew had top loading washing machines. The "Weigh to Save" bit got on ones nerves after a while. Just wanted to bung the lot into the washer and get on with things.

Remember we just chucked whatever washing powder was used on top of the wash and shut the door, as the machine lacked a dispenser. Fabric softener was simply poured into the drum after the second to last final spin. You had to wait until there was enough water in the tub otherwise the stuff would stain laundry. IIRC, my aunt and cousins who lived with Grandmama may have started to use dryer sheets.

Have to ask around and see if one or both of the appliances are still in the house. Grandmama passed on years ago, but my aunt sill owns the house.

Equator

Was the brand name Merloni slapped on Italian or Swiss made washing machines, dryers and combo units sold in the United States.

Merloni also purchased or some how aquired the rights to the Bendix name, hence one sees similar machines in OZ and elsewhere.

IIRC, Merloni also has other iconic appliance names such as Thor in it's stable.

AEG buttons

Hi Steve, you got the first 3 just fine, you're right about that third button, it reduces the spin speed from 850 to 650. The 4th button is an "E" inside a coin purse which means press for energy saving. What this does is reduce the temperature of the main wash but wash for a longer period of time. So if you chose 95 celcius it would wash at 67 celcius and add about 20 more minutes to the wash time.

AEG Lavamat

Hi Eddy...I have the same AEG machine. I bought it in 1991. I used it for a while. But then needed a larger machine, so I kept it hooked up and used it along with the Maytag at then time. I now have an LG. The machine has been diconnected for 2 years now. I want to re connect it and use it again. The machine has not had much use.

Great machine. Does a nice boil wash

AEG Lavatherm

it is just sat on my patio under a cover in the way really........it is a very good qaulity machine, like the AEG washers in this thread........but I am a Hoover man at heart and it doesnt move me...

oh yes distance might be a problem

Now if I was coming for a visit.......

lol

Yes, the washer is a nice machine too. I love the 4 rinses plus the cooldown. And the rinses fill half way up the door too.

washer visit

oh yes proper water levels in these older machines, not like modern day euro machines.......

well you would be welcome to remove it, but i think the airport might have a problem with it in your hand luggage

Nice Studio Steve1-18 and I like both your Equator and AEG machines!!

eddy1210 the door of your AEG machine reminds me of the door of the Wascomat Gen 5. Again, very nice machines.
