Just a few. The gutting part is finished. The walls that had to come out are out, and the ruined oak floors have been removed. Today I tore the cabinets out of the utility room. Am making room for the furnace and central air, and a set of old Maytags. We also tore the sink and counter top out of the kitchen after the pixs were taken. The broken copper plumbing has been stripped out, and the new plastic has been routed. Although it is not hooked up yet.

Here is the utility room with the cabinets still in it.

Old electrical service. The water heater will be just to the left of the new service

200 amp replacement electrical service.

The junction box for the replacement water lines is installed in the wall to the left.

Front bedroom ceiling down. The mold will be killed with a sprayer filled with bleach water, after the plumbing is working again.

Bathroom gutted. I liked the arch above the tub, and the drywallers will remake the arch when the drywall is replaced.

new plumbing. There was a small closet on the right, which I removed to gain bathroom space. I will be installing a vanity, where prior to the demolition there was only space for a wall mounted sink.

Too bad this deco mirror was ruined on this cabinet. I will be installing a wall mounted oak cabinet in it's place

Did anyone ever wonder where all the old razor blades go when the bathroom cabinet had a slot for them?

Well, the original people that lived here must have used the slot. Their last name was Heartwig, and they were the original owners of this house. They sold it to the old lady in the early 1950's. She didn't shave, and the idiot that bought the house from the old lady's estate in 1983 used an electric razor. So these rusty razor blades have been in this wall from the late 30's to early 1950's.

So thats what happens when one would place a razor blade in the slot in the bathroom cabinet. <:

Kitchen. We tore the sink and counter top out just after this pixs.

We also made room for a sink cabinet that will be installed under the window. It came with some some top cabinets, which will be installed in the utility room above the washer and dryer.

Living room. This place is so dirty! We have to literally SHOVEL the shit out of here! After working over here, we come home, remove our clothes in the basement, and they go right in the washer.

That is the good thing about doing this type of work. We are doing lots of laundry! Mostly the 1958 Maytags and FOCA!

Back to it tomorrow....

Razor Blades

We found the same thing when we replaced our medicine cabinet. Sort of like a primitive sharps container.

And WHY would you want to get rid of that electrical service panel? ;-) Actually, it's not as crispy as some I've seen, but those old installations freak me out. (See pic) Am I right in assuming the house has knob and tube? I can't imagine how long it must have taken to wire stuff in those days.

Keep the pics coming! Can't wait to see the final results.

great progress guys

Im with the others keep the pictures comming and kudos to you for not knocking it down and rebuilding.

I wish I could be there to help

The two medicine cabinets in my bathroom upstairs have a slot for razor blades, I wonder how many blades are in the wall.

I think it's great when someone does what you are doing instead of tearing everything down and rebuilding.

Keep up the great work.
