I've been working for ages on trying to figure out a way to properly upload photos from the iPhone and iPad. Usually what happens is the picture turns over on it's side and loads turned 90 degrees or is upside down. Apple has been very tight lipped about this once again causing headaches for us web developers. Well after months of research and experimenting I think I've figured out their secret code. I just installed some enhancements to the site to properly upload images from your iPhone or iPad.

If you notice anything odd in the threads please let me know ASAP as this might have caused bugs, but I'm hoping not.

Also feel free to upload family friendly photos from your phone and ipad here in this thread to help me test the new system. Users of other phones brands please let me know how it looks on your phone and feel free to upload photos as well, just let me know the brand of phone.

Thanks everyone! Here is a picture uploaded from my iPhone...

Works great! Thanks for looking into this Robert! I know there are a lot of iOS users* here that will be very happy with this change.

Hi Robert ~

I'd love to be able to do this, but I don't know the steps. I have been emailing the iphone pics to my computer, entering them into the PowerBook Library, turning them the right way, and uploading to Aworg from there. It's not hard, but it would be fun and easy to put up the pic of the fireboat I just took.

If you or someone would tell me how, I'd be eager to learn, then I could load from the road without waiting till I got home. Thanks.

Hey Mike -

It's actually pretty easy.  While on your iPhone, click the "Choose File" button like you would on your PC.  iOS will then prompt you to decide if you want to choose from your existing library, or take a new photo.  When you choose from your photo library, all you have to do is tap the photo you want, and it automatically loads in the queue to be added when you hit preview.

Hopefully this helps!

Yay!!!

Now I can ask my mobile site related question! This was long before you added this new picture feature and maybe it's been fixed but, every now and then, if I hit the back button on the mobile browser, it blows everything up quite large and I can't zoom out as my iPhone thinks it's already fully zoomed out!

Thanks everyone for the test pictures. So far so good!

Jamie I use my iPhone all the time and that has never happened to me. I rarely use the back button though, either on the phone or on a desktop, so I'll play around it that and see if I can replicate it when I get some free time. Thanks for letting me know.

Also are you using a iPhone 5, I just tried using the back arrow from about 10 different threads and it worked fine for me. Is there a particular sequence that sets that off?

YAY ! THANKS, BEN !

Piece of cake, even for an old bag. LOL That was a moth that spent the night inside a towel on the deck. Cute little bugger.

Sam - do you know what version of iOS you are running?  A buddy of mine is running an original iPad that maxes out at iOS 5.1.1, and he cannot upload to AW due to a limitation in earlier versions of iOS.

It seems that this feature works on 6.0 and higher.

Yes earlier versions of the iPhone had the file upload button grayed out on all sites (not just aw.org). With this later version Apple has fixed that issue with their Safari iPhone software.

Why Apple made that decision early on not to support file upload buttons is beyond me. Now suddenly they do but unfortunately Apple doesn't bother to tell web developers how to handle the image files (at least as far as I could find) we just have to figure it out on our own. Certain things about Apple I cannot stand lol.

This entire site was developed using Windows Computers, hmmmph!

Good work Robert although perhaps we will all miss some of the neck contortion exercises...

Here is a photo of my new generator / toy. Full test for a future thread is underway.

I liked the little preview box that pops up when uploading the photo!

Two And A Half Frigidaires! This iPad2 takes good quality video, but the photos are pretty crappy. I understand that's been addressed in the newest version.

Robert, your photo of Calhoun Square makes want to shop at Kitchen Window. I love that place.

Hi Sam, it's under Home Screen ---> Settings ---> General ---> About, then scroll down to version. At least is how it is under my version.
