Okay, I just uploaded a video of our Siemens dishwasher - it shows the inside of the DW as it's washing - to YouTube. Problem: you can't recognize anything! :( YouTube compressed the video so much - all you can see is pixels instead of water spraying. I did everything YouTube recommends (30 frames per second, MGEG4 format, mp3 sound). However, the quality...well...it sucks. I tried PutFile.com and there isn't much improvement.

My question is: is there a good video hosting site that won't compress videos until they become unrecognizable? The original .wmv file is 9.9 MB large - FWIW.

Here's how my vid would look like on YouTube (it's not "Public" yet). Can you recognize the cutlery tray on the right side? I can't!

Try Using YouSendIt.com

Try using YouSendIt.com or a similar file downloading service. In this fashion, one could download the original uncompressed file for storage and playback on one's own computer in whichever format and media player of his/her choice. This is especially beneficial for sharing MPEG-1's, WMV's, and other Windows Media compatible files that require no special add ons or plug ins to play correctly. From what I understand about YouSendIt.com, you can email a link to a file, and recipients would have up to a week to grab their own download, which is *for most people* plenty of time to help themselves to a copy.--Laundry Shark

YouSendIt Experiment

This is my experiment with YouSendIt: I have provided this direct link where you can grab a copy of this file: tide_xk.mpeg. This MPEG will play in your Windows Media Player without the need for any plug ins.

This file download will expire after seven days or 100 downloads. Try this experiment and tell me how it works. By the way, the maximum file size is 100 MB for the free YouSendIt account.--Laundry Shark

Thanks!

Your video worked flawlessly. Too bad YouTube's file compression ruined my video. I really like how YT allows each user to have his/her own homepage, so to speak. I don't think Google Video has this option.

Your Original Video?

If you still have a copy of your original 9 or 10 MB video, you can upload it as is through YouSendIt. It can be accessed by interested recipients without any compression or modifications in between. *smiles* Best of Success!--Laundry Shark

The Laundry Shark Most Definitely Is...

I like collecting audios and videos of washer and other appliance demos, as well as relevant classic radio and TV commercials for various appliances, detergents, etc. Therefore, *for all reading this,* please feel free to pop your compatible videos and audios into the Shark's Inbox. Please find my profile to locate my email address. In sending stuff into my email account, you can fire off up to 20 MB of file size or use YouSendIt or similar downloads. If the audio sounds good, that's good enough for me.--Laundry Shark
