Jeff Parker has an Australian Sunbeam Mixmaster that is a permutation of the US models 12 and V14 and I wanted one ever after. I spoke with an ebay seller in Australia who was willing to ship and won the auction for her mother's Sunbeam. I should have warned her to always remove the motor from the stand and it arrived today with the base broken. Are there any members from Austalia who might have contact information to a Sunbeam repair outlet where I might be able to order a replacement part?

I saw this cute blender and won this auction from a Boulder Colorado thrift store. Inspite of double boxing and what appeared to be great packing it arrived broken as well. The one thing the seller failed to mention was that the former owner had written his name in permanent marker on three sides of the unit. Regardless of broken or not it would have never made it as a display piece.

Kelly, I can commiserate. This does happen.

Greg shipped me his extra Sunbeam model 9 that was up for grabs a month or so ago, and it arrived with broken bowls. From what I can tell Greg packed it well, but things happen. My UPS driver told me not to accept it, and have the supervisor open it. They did return the mixer and the juicer which survived, but I need to be on the lookout for a set of bowls. Any favorite spots to look? do they just go by Model 9 bowls or is there a certain number I need to look for.

Quick question - did you find a cheap way to get stuff shipped from Australia? I was looking at a small item, perhaps 8 oz and a 4x6x2 box. The seller told me it would be almost $100 to ship it. I went on line to he UPS and DHL site and came up with similar numbers. I don't care how long it takes to get here, I would not mind spending $150-$20 on shipping but not $100+.[this post was last edited: 9/14/2010-16:48]

Oh Kelly!

I'm sorry to hear this happened to items you bought, that really sucks! Unfortunately it seems like sometimes no matter what you do to protect an item during shipping, it still gets damaged.

I really hope you're able to get the replacement parts to get that mixer up and running again!

What bad luck Kelly, unfortunately you'll be hard pressed to find a spare parts retailer here. Parts for anything sunbeam more than 5 years old no longer exist. Sunbeam no longer repair anything, they just replace if it fails during the warranty.
I have a Gray handled Model 12 somewhere, I just need to shift some stuff to get to it. The stand wouldnt be identical but would be very similiar. Would that help?

Matt, try the link below for shipping, I've posted up to 10kg's for about $100 surface. It'll take 2 months to get there, but its not too unreasonable. The calculator suggests that 20kgs (40lbs) is $180AUD via surface.

Kelly,

Its such a shame to see those once great items all smashed up.

I gave up on UPS after recieving so many damaged boxes and lots of broken items. USPS seems to do a much better job at not mutilating items.

overseas shipping...

stuff really seems to get beat up when it ships overseas;
years ago i got some russian made radios and HiFis shipped
to me from russia and eastern europe-most small ones survived
intact as did a large phono/hifi-the 2nd phono/hifi,got
smashed beyond repair;looked like the radio chassis shook
loose early in the trip and rattled around inside, beating
up everything around it.Later in the journey the wooden
cabinet got smashed...At least it provided a good stash of
spare parts for the other one...

I find FedEx is not only a little bit cheaper than UPS, but I haven't had them damage anything of mine, ever.

I have had tons of things destroyed by UPS. You'll need a lawyer to get them to pay on an insurance claim. I think they do this intentionally. They take money for insurance with no intention of paying on a claim.

This is truly a deceptive trade practice.

This has happened to me as well

on several occasions but thats in 800 trades so its not a big thing until you get that "dream piece" and want it go "strawberry ride" as my Mom used to say. Put a quart of fresh strawberries on the floor of the car and drive around not spilling one off the pile, thats a strawberry ride!
I was told by a gay UPS handler don't ever ship anything UPS unless you yourself alone are prepared to hurl it across a room and hit a wall!
He told me they throw packages between trucks to keep the speed up.
I too have had very good luck with USPS and FEDEX.
Don't ever try PARCELFORCE from England, they have not connection to any delivery service in the US so whatever they get ends up in limbo someplace!

I have learned when you send anything breakable, don't just accept their $100.00 coverage insurance which is standard....

increase the insurance a couple hundred dollars, closer to $800.00 to $1000.00......never a broken piece or damaged box

anything less and you take your chances

and this doesn't matter who you send it with

Kelly....

....there is a chap who refurbs mixmasters and Kenwood Chefs in Melbourne and then sells them on Ebay....

It is highly likely that he would have access to a stand that would be correct for you...

He normally has Mixmasters for sale on Ebay that he has fixed/refurbed as well as repainted in stoving enamel....

Send him a message, but in the meantime, I'll keep my eyes peeled in the few local charity shops for you.

Calling OZ

Thank you Chris for the lead. I have admired his work yet it hadn't dawned on me to contact him. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I sent the GE mini-basket pictured in the Imperial forum via FedEx Ground. I made sure it was well protected with newspaper, and the box was well taped shut. I've used FedEx before and have always had good results.

Chris to the Rescue

I emailed Neville in Australia who has the part I need. I am hoping to get a few more items from his as well. Thank you for putting us in touch.[this post was last edited: 9/15/2010-19:00]
