Vac Collectors/Your Rarest Vacuum cleaner

Well here I go...

I'm not sure exactly how rare all of these are, but I do no that they aren't the most common around here at least.

In this first one, my rare ones are the SuperVac and the Rexair model D.

Here are some central vac units, a GE Black&Decker, and Kenmore. And another SuperVac.

There are some I still need to get pictures of. A interesting suction only Kenmore, Clarke 500, Health More, and Eureka.

The De'Corvac is really a funky vacuum indeed. It is way too heavy to pull behind you as you clean. The top part where the hose inlet is comes off if you pull too hard on the hose. It would move better if it had the ball casters instead of the swivel wheels. the tools are generic but the the chrome rug nozzle is heavy and is easy to push. It doesn't bounce around. The suction is great, very powerful. I see this vacuum in the den in front of two chairs that are facing the television. The De'Corvac would be just enough to clean between and under the chairs all the popcorn, peanut shells, or potato chips landing in the "TV area". Of course all the beer cans would have to be taken to the trash by hand

Constellations

Model 85 and 87 (with the electric switch in the handle of the hose) Constellations. Both very rare machines!

Another you don't see very often...

Model 634... Complete with tools. All from the original owner. I had to replace the cord on this one, too. I don't recall the story of this model offhand... Jeff? Tom? Can you elaborate?

Has the half-bumper, slide-top drop down bag, HOOVER letters in the hood not painted... and the color--are the basic diffferences between this and the model 63.

Fred, that 634 is one BEAUTIFUL machine...I completely forgot about those!

In Tucson, Roger showed me his 634 and explained the details...can't remember off the top of my head but I think he mentioned it was some sort of promotional machine. One particular characteristic that stood out was that in the model number, the "63" was stamped into the metal, but the "4" was ink and stamped slightly off to the side of the "63".

The 634 was introduced in response to Hoover delaers wanting a "Sale" machine.
Previously there had been no such thing as a sale or bargain price for a Hoover, and dealers wanted something they could advertise as a special.
Model 634 was made from January 1955 to January 1956.
This was basically a dressed down model 63, half bumper, slide top bag, an an agitator with a slightly smaller diameter than the 63. I believe these used the canoe style brushes too.
One fun fact is the 634's cord, it was black, and featured the older larger clip on plug, not seen since 1953 when the 29/62 were dropped.
The 634 was available for that one year in limited quantities to dealers, it was supposed to bring customers into the stores, so the dealers could sell them up to the more deluxe model 63.
There were just over 66,000 634's made.

Hoover plugs- A thought

Hey Tom/All

Id agree the later design defiantly looks safer with the finger stop ridge and and larger distance from the prongs to the edge. My 1010 and 707 both (obviously) have the early version and a few times when ive unplugged them from the extension socket from the transformer im sure my finger has come VERY close to touching the prongs-consequently the transformer is now unplugged 1st lol!!!

What Fantastic Vacuums!!!!!!!!!!!

I really love this thread. I'm seeing things that I never saw except in advertisements! And I would consider myself a veteran collector now.

Robb, that Westinghouse Carousel is sweet! I have a beat up Kenmore version that I'm debating whether its salvagable or not. It runs great, but as usual, it must have been in a basement and is rusted pretty bad. I have the hose fittings, so I could get something going with it.

I'm leaving this afternoon for North Canton, Ohio to visit Tom A. and do some thrifting. I'm looking forward to visiting and seeing his wife and son again. Also I get to see all the additions to his collection from the past year and maybe work on some machines. I know the visit will go by fast and it sure will be fun. See you this evening, Tom.
