Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I agree. I did finally get in. I had to use the forgot password option. I knew my password but once I changed it, I got in. I'm not sure if I like the format. I do know, I was I paid member and it still says I am until September, but I get all kinds of ads.

Being Honest

At the cost of being that one seemingly negative, ungrateful person in the crowd...

I hope AW.org doesn't switch to V Bulletin software.

Robert's design and coding is by far, hands down, the best internet discussion forum format I have ever used. Straight forward, simple,  no nonsense and easy on the psyche like many vintage appliances.

V-bulletin is cumbersome, draconian and often over-flowing with ads. I am hoping that it doesn't resort to AI based moderation down the road which deletes and bans based on biased broken programming.

I fully understand that Robert can not pay, run, manage and operate a website forever. However, I am hoping that Alan and Crowd Source can set up something where the keep Robert's original design.

I always assumed that the new owner would come with a different design. This website was Robert’s own design and programming so difficult to transfer without a lot of software training. Today Vacuumland looks a bit changed and a bit more like the old forum with separate forums.

There are some advantages. It looks like the message system is free (haven’t tried it yet) and the option Mark forums read is very convenient. On this site that wasn’t possible because it was too much strain on the server.
Resetting your password is part of the transition and is very easy to do as long as your email address is known.

I don’t like such things be changed, it will sure be something to get used to. After all we can’t expect Robert to maintain this site until 120 from Shady Pines. I am glad Robert found a way to a form of continuity and not having to just stop the existence of our community. So it’s use it or loose it.

Thank you Louis, what you said is exactly correct. Chet, I believe they are using XenForo Forum Software which takes a bit getting used to but I believe will work just fine in the long run once everyone gets used to it.

The main thing to remember is this will ensure all of our nearly 1.25 million posts here will be saved and viewable for a much longer time than I will ever be able to do it on my own. Plus we all will be able to add millions of more posts over the next decades.

The change over on AW to XenForo is coming soon as far as I know.[this post was last edited: 5/31/2025-10:10]

Worthy of Praise

Robert, I am in no way protesting your decision to change forum administration.

I just want to say that if everyone was like me your coding and forum style would dominate, being what the top 3 most popular forum software is today. You would be a multi millionaire and mentioned routinely in tech forums and tech news. Yes, I think you are that good at what you do. Thank you for the joyous gifts you have given humanity.

I say this out of admiration, respect and genuine liking of your tech skills. Trust me, your talents have not gone unnoticed.
