Is the day of Valentines Day a world wide tradition or is it just a Hallmark holiday here in the US?

It would appear that it is becoming a world wide, or at the least Western culture, card and rose buying frenzy....
Frankly, my partner and I tell each other frequently that we love the other....I don't need a soppy, over priced card or a rose or box of chocolates to know it.....
....mind, if he found a Hoover Keymatic in good shape I wouldn't argue...

My Goodness, have you all seen the info-commercial for the Valentines Bear and also the faux Victoria Secret Jammies? They are popping people something like $70 bucks, for that bear. The commercials are also showing women receiving these items in the office cubicles at work. Its kind of putting the pressure on the guys to buy one and send it to the ladies job. We will just go out to dinner. While a $70 bear might be appropriate for a new romance, after 17 years we have well blown past the need for cutsey bears, charged to a credit card. It is one hell of a marketing idea though//// Happy Valentines Day to all of AW.org alr2903

I worked for a Japanese company for a while............
Japan has two "Valentine's Day".
IIRC February 14th is the one where the women approach the men.
On a similar note a man can take a woman's name upon marriage. This is mostly done when the woman's family name is about to become extinct in that family.

Since I come from a family where all of us kids were born in November. We kids came to the conclusion that Daddy gave Mom something besides Roses on Valentine's Day.

Jane Jones had all the Jones boys in OCtober throughout the 1930s
How did she practice such exacting birth control in the 1930s?,
we were always wondering while we were growing up.
After we grew up the answer became an esay result. Uncle Charlies birthday is in Febuary.
Second result, after Jones boy number seven headed for college Uncle Charlie headed for divorce court.
